Giro Tuneups w/BT Link - 2008

Whether you ski or board, jib or carve, the Giro Tuneups w/ BT Link put crucial tunes and critical communication capability in your helmet using wireless Bluetooth technology. Gone are the days of tangled headphone cords, open jacket zippers, and frozen, fumbling fingers dropping cell phones and iPods into the snow. After a simple setup, you can rock out to Rachmaninoff or The Rakes while your iPod snoozes safely inside your pocket, and take important calls from your Bluetooth-enabled phone with the press of a button—no unzipping or pausing required. The wireless Tuneups mount in the earflaps of your compatible Giro helmet, and come with a DJ-style headphone strap so you can use them off the slopes.

Bottom Line: Groove in the heart or merge and acquire with the musi-call miracle of Bluetooth Tuneups.

False advertising....

If you read the description it tells you.. "Gone are the days of tangled headphone cords, open jacket zippers, and frozen, fumbling fingers dropping cell phones and iPods into the snow." as far as I can see, I still have to connect my ipod using "headphone cords". This was a big selling point for me... very disapointed, especially as I paid full price for them. In the Tech Specs section it also states the cord lenth as "cordless" and the input connection as "iPod dock adapter..." I guess you could call a standard 3.5mm audio jack as an iPod dock adapter, but I wouldn't.
Lastly the description states... "The wireless Tuneups mount in the earflaps of your compatible Giro helmet, and come with a DJ-style headphone strap so you can use them off the slopes." Don't expect a DJ-style headphone strap, you won't get one. There is no way to remove the speakers from the helmet earflaps anyway.
As far as everything else goes.. it plays the music on your mp3 player and connects to a bluetooth enabled phone just fine.

Giro Tuneups w/BT Link

By:
February 20, 2009

The reviews left by Monster are absolutely useless so for anyone interested in buying this read on. First off this is only good with two helmets. One of which is the bad lieutenant. the other I don't remember (threw out the packaging). The replacement audio ear pads that come with the tune up jam pretty loud and they fit the bad lt. just as well as the original non audio ear pads your replacing. The two issues that I've had with this is either the wiring seems to be low end or the BT microphone/volume control that the wire jacks connect to broke. Either way Backcountry replaced the malfunctioning set up no questions asked. Secondly when syncing your cell phone to the set up I've noticed that its very delicate. So if your listening to music and touch the button on the volume control the music will be cut off and the phone will ask you if you'd like to call someone. Kinda annoying but you can still use the speakers without the celly being synced to the set up. In terms of what types of mp3's this is compatible with I can only confirm an ipod.

Doesn't fit the Omen

By:
March 13, 2009

I can't speak for the audio qualities since I only got as far as realizing that the earpads do not fit the Omen. The tabs that slip into the helmet are a slightly different shape than the stock ones. Also, I couldn't figure out where to put the BT Link so it wouldn't be in the way. Would be better if the BT was built into the earflap.

Of course. It'd be tough to answer the phone otherwise.

It only works with the Giro Encore and Bad Lieutenant helmets. I guess it should work with any blue tooth phone.

I think the link is for encore and bad L and the lock is for the othershttp://www.backcountry.com/store/GIR0095/Giro-Tuneups-w-2-Way-Radio.htmlThis one is compatible w/ the Omen. However, the picture on the two-way link is incorrect.
