G3 Alpinist elle Climbing Skins - Women's - 2008

You know perfectly well what’s not cool on a ski touring trip—lame skin traction, tip and tail connections that pop off, and adhesive that’s either too light (falling off your ski) or too sticky (fifteen-minute-long wrestling matches at the top of the ridge). Get stoked on the G3 Women’s Alpinist elle Climbing Skins. Low-profile pivoting hands connect the tip of the skins to your skis without fold-overs, and laminated tail features reduce weight and drag. Advanced waterproofing treatment keeps your skins dry and prevents wet snow clumping, and the fast-gliding synthetic plush lends a smooth feel and secure traction. A RipStrip down the center makes these skins quick and easy to pull off once you reach the top. *Trimmed to fit, check size chart.

Bottom Line: For free-heel touring chicks.

Did the Job, and Look Great with her Miss Bakers

Got these for my daughter for our annual Europe trip as her skis had grown along with her and she needed new skins. I'm a believer of the straight skin approach, it makes the care and folding of the skins much easier and, the loss of contact surface from a trimmed skin is negligible. The no glue area (rip-strip) down the middle of the skin is cool too, easy off. And the attachment system at the tip of the ski is second to none. Cheers.

Why do women need different skins? - A wondering dude.

not a scam, a marketing deal. I'm a aggressive male skier, live in MT and I've had G3 alpinists for 2 yrs in a 120 for my BD Verdicts. I've used them 30 or so times and love them, although (unrelatedly) the connection between the tip connector and the ski appears to (like 2 of my friends) suffer reliability issues.

However! The glue is so totally badash that they're tough to pull apart, and I'm a strong 210# dude. Even on yoyoing tours I never have trouble w/the glue keeping the skin on the ski and have wished for the new "ripstrip" many times. Certainly for G3 to say "Our goal was to create a climbing skin that the unique needs of female skiers" is an distracting and perhaps insulting way to say "built for weaker people," but that doesn't mean a ripstrip won't be appreciated by anybody with that much super-effective glue holding skin to ski.

Too bad they're targeting females with this; it's going to be equally useful to men. Haven't looked to see if the elle comes in a 190cm for a board as wide as the Verdict, but if they do, they'll for sure be my next skin.

They don't. It's kind of a scam.

Good grip and secure hold

By:
December 29, 2008

I just used these skins for the first time, however, the uptrack that I was on was so steep that I really wasn't able to get a good feel for the skins and how they held..nothing would of held but crampons. Dispite the steep sections they seem to hold ok..not sure if this helps. I did the ease in which they came off and the attachment to the tip and tail were very secure.

Hi I've got Atomic TM's 170's 95mm at the widest

Hi I've got Atomic TM's 170's 95mm at the widest part tip and tail. I use my tele's for both uphill climbs and for some backcountry flats so I think these would be best for me (I'm a woman too). I think I would need a short skin size according to the sizing chart but I wanna make sure before I buy.

Pretty decent skins

By:
February 11, 2009

I used these skins in a hike and ski relay. The grip was great until I got into the steepest area, then even switch-backing up the hill was so slick I was sliding backward and had to take my skis off and just hike. Most other racers were skinning it straight up, which makes me think these just aren't as grippy as others available.

smaller sizes and a 'ripstrip' - basically a strip down the middle of the skin with no adhesive so it's easier to rip off the ski. and yes, pretty colors. :)

Perfect fit

By:
January 13, 2009

I bought these in October and have used them over twenty times. They fit my Volkl Auras perfectly and only took a small amount of cutting (use a sharp utility knife though not what they give you) I hang them by the fire at night and they are ready to go every morning. The clip system also makes it very easy to rip them off w/o taking your skis off.
