G3 Expedition Climbing Skins - 2007

The G3 Expedition Climbing Skins give you great grip on snow during your backcountry tours, and the tip and tail connections fit securely, so you're not constantly slipping back and stopping to wrestle the skin-tails back on your skis. G3's new laminated tail reduces weight and drag while keeping the same dependable clip connection. The Expedition Climbing Skins' adhesive sticks to the base of your skis in all temperatures, and the synthetic fabric provides traction on your uphill battles and a smooth glide across level ground. G3's waterproof finish keeps these skins dry, and these skins' four standard lengths and range of widths fit your telemark or AT skis.

Bottom Line: Get a good ski-to-skin and skin-to-snow connection with G3's Expedition Climbing Skins.

From wet to dry, these skins will work

A few months ago i bought these skins. Most of my friends have the BD version, so i thought i would try out G3, after hearing good reviews. My initial reaction when i got them, was how short the hair was on the skin. I was concerned that they wouldn't be-able to grip steep icy slopes, as well as a skin with a longer hair would be able to. My first trip with these skins was a backcountry ski adventure on Mt. Hood. Our packs were fully loaded, close to 50 lbs, and initially the snow was nothing great. The ski into the cabin allowed me to quickly test the skins, there were one or two steeper spots on the trail, and as long as you committed to the ski, the skins held you. The next day we went for a summit push, so the skins got a solid 6 or 7 hours of use. No complaints what so ever. The snow was quite windblown and hard, but the short-haired skins held up fine. The glue worked fine in colder temperatures, and did not leave any residue on my skis. I just returned from a day in the mountains in Maine. The weather was quite warm, low 40s, and misting the whole day. So needless to say the snow was very very wet. The skins got soaked though almost immediately, and the glue felt like it was not there anymore. Throughout the day of taking them on and off, they never actually came off the skis, even though there was not much glue holding them on (or so it seemed), and they always held in the snow. Once they dried, the glue retained its sticky-ness. So on a whole, the skins work anywhere from hard windblown snow, to 40 degree waterlogged snow. I am very happy with my purchase.
