At this price they can't be beat! Light, yet still powerful enough to drive anything except monster skis.

as i graduated from slack country to banishing lifts from my life all together i moved to dynafit. however i still wanted a stiff enough boot to ski hard in the backcountry. for that this boot is sufficient, but not perfect. the description says "awesome freeride strength", but i disagree. if you are a serious hard charge or "freerider", you will need more boot most likely. i lean toward wanting more boot and not caring so much about every ounce weight-wise. i'd agree with the description of "feather-light". it's garmont's lightest four-buckle alpine touring boot. for me coming from alpine boots this boot is super light. and the "amazing comfort" i'd say is short lived as it has been pretty packed out quicker than i would have hoped.

my bottom line: it's a great in between boot, for someone who is willing compromise on both weight and performance - because you can't have both!

I recently purchased the Mega Ride 30.0 boots and they fit like a glove, just a little too much.
I'm posting this review to let others know that these boots do not have much volume in the lower foot.
Super light, great buckle system, nice walk mode, very comfortable liner but just too tight. I decided to return these and get the Scarpas that have much more volume in the lower foot area. If you have small to medium width foot the Mega Ride will be awesome.

If your foot is even slightly wide this will be too tight, and I'm not sure going a half size larger will solve the problem. I got mine a half size larger to start with, and I was shocked at how tight this boot was across the forefoot. I'm not talking a little tight, I'm talking painfully tight. Is this a lady's design? I cannot buy this boot. As a reference, the Scarpa Pro Tornado was also too tight, so maybe its me. It seems like only the Germans make boots wide enough for me, which is unfortunate since the Italians are the master bootmakers.

Seems half of the ski guides in the US are wearing these boots. Commonly seen on the feet of European guides as well. Drives skis very well considering how light it is. There is a switch on the back of the cuff to lock/unlock the forward lean to allow for greater range of motion. Climbs rock really well, vibram sole and rubber in the instep make it good for walking on broken rock and for climbing ladders (patrol/rescue). Depending on where you ski, the flex will be different. If you are in a cold place the boot will feel stiffer. In a warmer place it may feel mushy. If you are trying these on in a warm house or fitting heated liners the boot may feel really soft. It will be stiffer out in the cold. That said, some skiers may find this boot too soft for use with huge (130mm uf) skis. I ski in colder places and with light ski mountaineering skis so these are a perfect match. The low volume toe-box may be a problem for some folks, going up a half size may remedy this. I size these up 1 full size to allow for swollen feet at high altitude. I dont think it compromises performance because the instep, ankle and cuff fit so well, it also makes them warmer (more toe wiggle room). Use toe caps when heat molding the liners. As with all boots, get a good footbed. I've used these boots to climb Broad Peak (worlds 12th tallest mt) and K2 (2nd tallest). If you are looking for a super light ski touring/mountaineering boot, here it is. If you are looking for a ripper to use with your Dukes and fats, look to the Radium.

First days have been on groomers but they handle well. The boots molded well to my feet by the boot fitter and are super comfy. On one long hike to some off- piste they were great to walk in. Can't wait to tour them. The boot has been working well engaging my Naxo binding. Thanks BC.com!

I've owned these boots for over two years, and I'm very happy with them. There are more and more 4-buckle Dynafit compatible boots coming out, and the Mega-Rides are still holding their own since the ratio of stiffness-to-weight is very high. I use them equally at the resort and in the BC, and they work well at both...still the gold standard of 4-buckle, Dynafit compatible boots, as far as I'm concerned.

I ordered the women's in 24.5, my normal size. The length would have been perfect, but the size of the toe box is as big as a pea. I tried the men's, of course they are wider, but I also found the toe box STILL seemed small (albeit not nearly as bad as the women's). Maybe just not the boot for me.

I have these boots and love them. While I understand the performance vs. weight issue, these are still great. A lot of reviewers mentioned these are not for wide feet. I have wide feet (though not exaggeratedly wide) and have no problem wearing these. (Whereas my feet were swimming in the Scarpa Spirits I was looking at.) I had these professionally fitted: I found the most experienced, seasoned ski employee in the store. He used a special oven to heat up the head-moldable liners. Then, he had me pick out the insoles I planned on using with the boots (I like SuperFeet green or orange). After that, he had me select a high-grade ski sock that I would be using with the boot. After placing a special rubber toe cup around my barefoot toes, he had me put a sock on over my toes and toe cup. Once the boot liners were warmed up to the desired molding temperature, the insoles went into the liners, I put the liners on (laced them up), then I put the boots on and stood in a knees-forward position (to stress the skin area) for about 10 minutes to set the liners. Sounds complicated, but the liners are now perfectly molded to my feet. Yes, these are the Garmont liners that come with the boot. (I was not charged a fee for this procedure.) I ski these with Atomic RT-86s (with Dynafit TLT Vertical bindings) and Black Diamond Verdicts (with Marker Baron AT bindings).

After 30+ years in alpine boots, switching to an A/T boot was a little scary. I thought I'd lose some performance, mainly in-bounds. Was I wrong. After reading the instructions and learning there are 2 ski settings (choose the forward lean if you want to ski like an alpine boot) I quickly got them dialed and am skiing all the same terrain as before, just as well. Plus, the lightweight for hiking and even just getting from the car to the lift is unreal. If you're on the fence, jump over it and get these boots.

Cons - I had to warranty my first pair, the heelpieces in both shells fell out and the cuff rivets came off both pairs of boots. BC.com made a cheerful and quick replacement. Liners pack out quickly, so be prepared to swap them out every 60 days of skiing.

Pros - Lightweight, comfortable for my 12EE foot. Lots of reviews state this is not the boot for wide feet but I seem to be able to wear Garmonts only! Boot climbs well, easy to climb 4th class some rock, climbs easier ice, etc. On the Haute Rte I didn't pack shoes, just wore my Mega Rides in the bars of Zermatt and on the train back to Chamonix! They feel like slippers, not ski boots.

I have very high arches and have always had problems with my ski boots. The step in entry is super easy and comfortable. The first day I used them I had a really bad ingrown toe but skiied all day with no problems. The lightness of the boot rocks and the ablility to free heel around town makes them comfotable enough to wear from door to door, don't even need to take them off for dinner after a long day. My old boots I had to un latch every lift ride now I'm locked down all day long.

I was shocked how lightweight these boots really are, and they don't sacrifice much performance for the sake of weight. Still having a bit of trouble getting them tight enough around my skinny ankles, so sometimes they tend to feel a bit too loose when I really push them hard. After two touring days, I am impressed with the flexibility and would recommend these to anyone.
