G3 Climbing Heels

The G3 Climbing Heels greatly reduce fatigue and stress during long ascents. With both long and short climbing wires, you're ready to ascend mild or steep slopes. The heel post's composite plastic resists wear, and the stainless steel wires are durable and light. The climbing wires extend to either 50mm or 70mm. Choose a 21mm or 8 mm base, depending on your binding’s rise.

Bottom Line: G3's Climbing Heels adjust for your steep and milder backcountry hikes.

There must be something I don't understand about this climbing

There must be something I don't understand about this climbing heel - I can buy this and get two different-size wires for $26, or I can buy separate wires for ~$22 each and attach them to my present heel? Is there any reason to pay more to buy the separate wires and not this?

You're not understanding what you actually get for those prices. This heel only gets you one heel for 26 bucks, so you'd pay 52 for the whole setup. The wires are a set of 2 so if you already had the heel, you'd only pay 21 for the upgrade in whatever length you want.
