Boardshort lacing and an integrated chamois make the Fox Racing Men's High Frequency Bike Short a must for freeride and downhill competition. The smooth nylon fabric shell repels mud and slides past thorns, then cleans up in a single wash cycle. Zippered leg vents cool you down during high-noon Durango descents, and a back stash pocket hides your ID and cash for a congratulatory round post-comp.
Bottom Line: Let the throttle rip wide open and wear the Fox High Frequency Short.
Overall great shorts. Tough material, good design, not too baggy. A little slim on the fit size. If you wear a 34, order a 36 instead unless you are a thin build. The padding seems a little thin if you ride more than 20 miles at a time...
I have to say that researching Fox's higher end MTB shorts was not an easy task as it could have been. The different pairs were similar in price and description, some sites confuse two different models. My main concern was finding a chamois that agreed with my butt, no site(including Fox's) display the chamois design.
This is my 3rd pair of Fox shorts, the first(no idea on the name ~$60-$80) were great. They were stolen. I replaced them with the mid-ranger which were awful, long rides would leave me with open sores. I've worn the High Frequency for both a 300 mile road tour and a 24 hour race MTB race. So far I like them.
The construction seems good, I definitely prefer the woven drawstring over the snap. The mesh liner only comes up to just above your 'bikini' line which means less fabric being doubled over while you're hunched over on a bike. My concerns of them being to downhill oriented/baggy were allayed. The fit is trim.
Four stars. I'd buy them again, but I have no idea why they are any better than the 2 other Fox shorts in the high price range.
I purchased these shorts, size 34 and there were to slim for my liking, exchanged them for a 36 and they fit great. so i would definetly get the nest size up for a little bit of a looser fit. the padding does it job ahd the outer fabric is nice
I've had 3 pairs (two 2007 and one 2008 models) of these over the last year or so and they are the best baggy shorts I've owned though still not as comfortable as spandex. The 2008 version is great except it cinches down on my gut while climbing making it difficult to breath. For this reason I much prefer the older version. The 2008 model improved the chamois design to single piece construction eliminating the delamination issues. I have not problem doing 3+ hr rides in either pair and the high back is great for people who don't have a flat butt.
Good Construction and a slim fit. They are not super baggy and do not bunch up. The Chamois is about right for an integrated short. Good looks, good fit and great performance.
Nothing too baggy or tight and has good length to fend off the brush. Shorts don't get hot compared to some others. If you're confident about your waist size, then you'll be fine with std sizes. If you're trying to fool yourself, better size one up with the slim fit on these shorts for comfort. Either way they will fit. They were not kidding about the stash pocket. Max capacity is cell-phone, keys, and a balled-up power bar at best (just screw the phone & make your friends drive so the powerbar has plenty of room). Good shorts, would not hesitate to buy another pair.
The Fox Racing High Frequency Bike Shorts are the highest quality shorts I've owned. Yes, there are cheaper shorts out there; however, I found that by spending a few more dollars, I got a much better (trim) fit from the High Frequency bike shorts than other shorts I've had in the past. The fit is key for me when I'm considering bike shorts with built-in chamois liner... when the cut is right (as it is in the H.F.) the chamois is very comfortable and protective on long rides. They are cut longer to keep them from riding up, but I wouldn't call them baggy, especially compared to Fox Racing's Mid-Ranger shorts. I have worn them on all types of mtb rides and am still pumped that I made the choice to spend a couple extra dollars.
