The Five Ten Spire has been a best-selling climbing shoe for years thanks to its comfortable fit and excellent price. With bomber durability, the Spire survives the learning curve of beginning climber's footwork. These unlined shoes conform to your feet as they stretch about a half size, which is why they make a great choice for long days on the rock where comfort is a priority. Sticky Stealth C4 rubber provides plenty of friction for desperate smearing, and a stiff forefoot edges well.
Bottom Line: There will be plenty of time for tight, uncomfortable shoes later. Start your climbing off right with the Five Ten Spire Climbing Shoes.
I love these blue shoes. They are the first pair of climbing shoes I bought, after trying out several others and renting a few more at the local gym, the choice was a no brainer. These fit me very well, and are pretty easy to get on and off, even though they are laces. I really wanted to get a pair of velcro, so that I could get them on and off fast, but my high instep made velcro almost not an option. The rubber is super sticky, and really thick, which means that your sensitivity is down, but the durability is way way up. For when I was just starting and even now when you are scrambling to find purchase, they can handle it. This shoe is fairly stiff at the front, helping keep you on all but the smallest of edges. The padded tongue is super nice, since all of the other shoes I used cut into the top of my foot around the lace eyelets. The heel fit is really nice, holding me in great. The dual loops are great for pulling them on. You will see tons of people with this shoe on at the easier routes and in the gym, because it is the best shoe for beginners and people looking for comfort.
Really love these shoes. My first pair began to wear out after over two years of frequent climbing so just bought another pair to use while I get the first pair re-soled. I have a fat foot and these shoes are comfortable enough to wear on multi-pitch but tight enough to have a great edge. Highly recommended for comfort, durabiliy, and function!
Im up in the air about buying the Coyote or the Spire? I am a beginner climber and have a wide foot. The Spire appears to have a wider toe box than the Coyote(just an assupmtion based on the photos), however the reviews rave about the comfort of the Coyote. Any advice in the matter??
I have a very narrow foot and I use the Spire...although I do have to suck the laces all the way up. I've read that slippers and velcro shoes tend to fit wide feet better than lace-ups.
Ok first let me please tell you that if you are a first time buyer from this site like I was, you have nothing to worry about! I live one state over from where these ship out from. I ordered it snail mail and they came the next day. very fast shipping and order prossesing! I also ordered a crash pad that shows it took 2 days to deliver, but I never got it. Not Backcountry's fault UPS's fault. I called Backcountry up and the first thing they tell me is, "We'll get another one shipped right out!!! WOW amazing costumer service!! A+++++!!!
OK OK the shoes... I had a chance to try these on from a local Retailer. From what I have read, the all leather shoe will stretch a bit, up to one size. I wear a 11.5-12 in US mens. I ordered these in 10.5 and they fit tight, but I can tell that after a few uses they are going to be perfect. Rubber on them is real sticky and even being a beginner I feel like a pro. Shoe is well built and seems like it will wear well. I was really liking the La Sportiva Mytos, but am real glad that I got these. I think my next shoe will be 5.10's I love my blue suede shoes!! Thank you Backcountry.com
these were my first pair of climbing shoes. i think that these were a perfect choice for a first pair, because they functioned in every great way that a beginning climber needs -- they are comfortable, with some padding and a nice, supportive soul. in addition, the toe rand is pretty thick, so it lets you smear and really give the shoes a beating (the way beginners do, before they learn some freaking TECHNIQUE!!!) without destroying the shoe.. THE ONLY PROBLEM: they stretch! a full size, if you will! the full grain leather is misleading -- they began to stretch after a couple months of light (once a week) climbing, and after 9 months, they were about a size larger than when i bought them, and that was just about the time that i began wanting a SMALLER climbing shoe, as i became more accustomed to climbing shoes, and wanted a higher-performance shoe... still though, i was very satisfied. ALSO: they wash well! in the washer. cold wash. it will shrink them temporarily (a good 2 hours of sweaty feet will undo that though..)
I am fairly new to climbing and recently had to buy my first climbing shoes. I wear a 14 and I live in Japan, so shopping locally was out of the question. I bought 2 different pairs online...the Five Ten Anasazi and the Five Ten Spire...both in size 14. I made it about 5 minutes before I decided the Anasazi was not for me. They tortured my feet and would have never allowed me to get through a climbing session without wanting to give up. The Spire was comfortable, but snug. I've since become quite fond of my new sport and I'm progressing to more difficult climbs. The Spire is my shoe.
I understand the concept behind tight shoes and I think the Anasazi probably fit perfectly. But, I'm not at a climbing level where a tight shoe gives me a climbing advantage. I'll leave the ridiculously tight shoes to the expert boulderers out there. Maybe I'll join you later;)
I recently bought these as a 3rd pair of climbing shoes and they are everything I was hoping for. My other two pairs cover me for long alpine routes and serious rock climbing. These have me covered for comfort on easy days at the crag which is exactly what I was looking for. Good price... great comfort... and very pretty :)
These are great shoes for beginners, or anyone who wants a comfortable shoe. I usually wear a 6.5 in women's and I got a 5 (men's) in these. They were tight to begin with, but stretched out for a very comfy fit after about a week of use.
