Fischer Watea 101 Alpine Ski - 2006

The Fischer Watea Alpine Ski has what you need to drop into a chute and run it out on the wide-open slope. The vertically laminated wood core gives the ski a soft longitudinal flex, so it won't be tough to keep those tips up in pow. A swallow tail helps with deep-snow maneuvering and ensures you won't be skiing on your heels to maintain speed. The lightweight core makes the Watea easy to handle, so you can pop quick turns while floating the powder—no more straight lining slopes just so you can keep your speed across the flats. The Watea Ski's construction maintains its torsional stiffness while allowing the soft longitudinal flex you want for a powder ski. The result is forgiving in powder but still stiff enough to lay down a hard carve on a groomer.

Bottom Line: Own the powder in the Fischer Watea Alpine Ski.

Super versatile fat

I've got last year's model, which is the same as this year's - but I like the black topsheet this year better. It's not the biggest gun in my quiver, but this thing can handle 99% of what I want to do on the mountain. Moderately softish flex, such that it can handle speed but also turn easily through the trees and tighter spots. Basically this is an incredibly versatile, easy-to-ski ride in something as fat and long as its dimensions. Fischer doesn't market their equipment well and this is definitely one of the least-known ripping skis out there - if it had the marketing backing of say Rossi or K2, you'd see these all over the hill guaranteed.
