I bought these as my first pair of climbing shoes and they have not let me down. The to-the-toe lacing provides infinite adjustment options to make them fit exactly how you like. I did buy a half size smaller than I normally wear, to allow for stretching, and couldn't get my foot in. A simple, pain free exchange through this fine purveyor and I can't stay off the wall. My only suggestion to 5.10 would be to fill the whole heel area with rubber. There are little patches of exposed leather on the sides of the heel that might wear before the rest of this durable shoe.

Great Starter Shoe

By: Backcountry.com Employee
March 3, 2008

I started climbing 5 months ago and these shoes were the most comfortable to start in. Before these I used a pair of Mad Rocks that gave me seam sting on the anterior sides of my feet and a pair of Velcro La Sportivas that I was uncomfortable in because they were too narrow in the arch. As soon as I put the 5.10 coyote on and felt the way the soft interior leather molded to my foot, I knew they were going to be a good starter shoe. The elongated lace up is definitely a plus, it allows you to fit the shoe as tight or loose as you want without risk of the shoe slipping off. If you want a comfortable shoe that you can leave on between climbs, I highly recommend the Coyote.

Can't go wrong with the coyotes.

I am a bigging climber on a budget, and the COYOTES have far exceeded my expectations for climbing shoes. They smear great!!! Hold you to tiny foot holds with tons of confidence in your footing, 5.10 sizing says fit it true to your foot size, no need to mash your feet, feel great, great price, should be more but I'm glad they are not. Overall highly recommend this shoe for beginners, and budget climbers.

really good

So far the Coyotes have served me well. I recommend them to anyone starting out. The Stealth rubber soles are super grippy and will hold onto anything. The long, lace-up design allows for the lace pressure to be equalized over the top of the foot. I recommend you get a half-size smaller than your normal walking shoe.

This is a great show, especially for the more beginner type. The shoe is comfortable and easy to climb with. I got a half size smaller than my street size and it works great. One word of warning, if your feet sweat pretty good, expect red feet, the red leather bleeds for a while.

Coyotes Not Ugly

By:
August 24, 2006

Living in Florida and not having ready access to natural rock faces to climb, I spend most of my time at the gym. The first time I put on my new Coyotes and hit the wall I was amazed at the grip and power with which I could climb. These shoes fit well even though my second toe is longer than my big toe. I recommend them highly to any new climber or rock wall climber.

Very Good Shoe!

By:

The coyotes are a great shoe. I bought mine from this site and have been using them for a few months. They work great and they are perfect for leisure climbing and bouldering (because they are comfortable and don’t hurt to walk around in for long periods of time) and for more advanced aggressive climbing as well. They are still turning my feet red as will any other shoe but it is slowly decreasing and can easily wash off.

Good shoe for the beginner climber

By: Backcountry.com Employee
October 30, 2007

I just started climbing, and this has been a great shoe to use on a wall. The price is right and have had no problems thus far. I went down about a half size, but you could probably go a full size under your normal show size if you wanted due to the stretch factor.

Great shoes

By: Backcountry.com Employee
June 13, 2007

I went climbing for the first time in a long while last week and I loved it! So, I had to get some shoes of my own. After lots and lots of research, I decided on these and boy am I glad I did. These are amazingly comfy and really conform to my foot. I usually wear a 9.5 for skate shoes so I went with a 9 and it was a great choice. With little break-in time, these shoes are working greatly! Super sticky and perfect for any climber

Good company

By: Backcountry.com Employee

I'm a beginner climber and always thought, if I could get shoes, I'll get the Scarpa Veloce. But, after trying them on, and then checking these out-the Coyote was definitely the way to go. I love having laces to fine tune the fit with my weird toes. (who has toes that aren't weird anyway?) I also really like the local rep here for 5.10, he does an awesome job. The company is family owned based in Cali. Oh, and these shoes are comfortable...I know, they shouldn't be but I'm a newbie.
