Fischer E99 Crown Ski - 2008

Face the downhill with confidence when you’re on the Fischer E99 Crown Ski. Full-length metal edges grab like mad so you can gracefully link tele turns down the hill while your friends on old school edgeless cross-country skis flop their way down like a clown brigade. Mountain Crown scales bite into the snow on the flats and uphills, giving you unmatched traction on long tours, and air channels in the body minimize weight to help you conserve energy for a long day in the backcountry.

Bottom Line: Glide down the hill in perfect control.

1000 km on Fischer E99

This is the first year I have skied on a pair of true back country skis and the result was fantastic. Extreme weather (-48C to 8C) and rough terrain with varying snow conditions and the ski was almost flawless. The Crown base failed slightly on a packed trail with old snow and cool temps (-20C) but that was the only time I wished for a waxed ski. The Rottefella bindings were an equally rugged match for the ski but I found the Alpina 1550 boots showed wear and were not easily broken in.

Can you get a waxable base? and if not, can you recommend another similar ski that does not have the ubiquitous scales?
