Fischer Watea 101 Alpine Ski - 2005

The Fischer Watea Alpine Ski (134/101/124mm) has all the goods you need to back into a chute and run it out on the wide-open slope. The vertically laminated wood core gives the ski a soft longitudinal flex, so it won't be tough to keep those tips up in pow. A swallow tail helps with deep-snow maneuvering and ensures you won't be skiing on your heels to maintain speed. The lightweight core makes the Watea easy to handle, so you can pop quick turns while floating the powder—no more straight lining slopes just so you can keep your speed across the flats. The Watea Ski's construction maintains its torsional stiffness while allowing the soft longitudinal flex you want for a powder ski. The result is forgiving in powder but still stiff enough to lay down a hard carve on a groomer.

Bottom Line: Own the mountain.

Sicker!

First of all, could these dimensions be any more perfect? I really couldn't dream up anything better for skiing medium-to-big mountains in the West. Plus it's obvious the Wateas are built tough with near-vertical sidewalls and a bomber base. Despite how big these skis may seem, they have a decent sized tail rise and are really easy to vary your turn shape. The tip is just big enough to allow easy turn initiation while still allowing you to decide how to ski the terrain in front of you. It's got a pretty mellow flex, but torsionally it is solid. This thing can straightline Snowbird's upper Cirque with the best of them. If you are looking for a worth big mountain ski that won't turn your legs into Jello at the end of the day, this is your ski. Highly recommended.
