Evolv Maximus Approach Shoe - Men's - 2008

El Cap, Baffin Island, Trango—wherever you go, you can be sure that the Evolv Men's Maximus Approach Shoe will meet the challenges of your next big wall climb. These ultra-durable shoes include leather uppers and rubber toe caps to ensure they last from the time you shoulder the pig until you finish the last pitch. Evolv's sticky TRAX rubber soles let you crank out a few moves (or pitches) of free climbing, and they also have an instep arch to cradle your aiders when you're jugging. The Maximus Approach Shoes' high-top design adds support for multi-hour A4 pitches and knee-buckling descents.

Bottom Line: For the biggest walls in the world.

Perfect shoe for big walling and offwidths. Stand in aiders well, bust free moves with ease, and will protect your ankles on the OWs. I used these on the Salathe, they were awesome

Looking for a shoe for alpine rock, such as 5.10 guide. Those climb up to 5.7 pretty well. What do you think?

I have climbed up to 5.10 in them, they would be awesome for alpine rock, just a little big to carry around in the pack, but super comfy for all day climbing

great boot for aid..

So comfy in aiders! If you sz them tight (I wear a 10 (mens) street shoe and found the sz10 to fit perfectly snug w/ socks) they work really well for hard fat cracks. I would not take these shoes into the mountains, your feet would freeze if they got wet, but I suppose they would climb better than Five Tens Guide Tennie. Probly the best shoe out for doing speed ascents in the Valley and such!

Peter~ The shoe was more designed as an Approach/Wall shoe. It would probably be fine for longer walks but it was definitely designed with more climbing in mind. ~Cordillera

Nice shoes but they need some work

I love the super sticky Trax rubber and the leather shell and rubber heel is comfortable with a tongue that is very breathable so your foot doesn't get all sweaty. They work great in the climbing gym and fit better than my normal climbing shoes. But they are more like Climbing shoes than Hiking boots. The toe box is too tight for extended hikes and they have no arch support or padding in them just like climbing shoes so no heavy packs. I believe I will return them for a larger size and try to beef up the arch support or find a hiking boot with a soft sole. I have a 10.5 Maximus and where a 10.5 evolv climbing shoe and an 11 backpacking boot. US sizes

not so leather uppers

By:

'never did more than take these out of the box, try them on and send them back. They are sized like climbing shoes, i.e. too tight for me and despite the fact that most of the upper is leather, the tongue is not, which makes them seem cheap.
