The Evolv Elektra Women's Climbing Shoes take all the features of the popular Defy shoes and integrate into a woman's last for a precise fit without any slop. The result is a new level of precision and comfort for everything from chill routes to your hardest project. Evolv used lined synthetic uppers in the Elektra Climbing Shoes to eliminate stretch and break-in time. They fit right out of the box. Super-sticky TRAX XT-5 soles provide all the friction you need for desperate smearing or edging on your next route or boulder problem.
Bottom Line: Evolv gave the Elektra Climbing Shoes incredible performance features and a shape that actually fits your foot.
I bought these shoes after a long break from climbing, hoping to ease my feet back in to shape slowly. After about a month I was fed up.
Pros: -cheap -velcro -narrow heel
cons: -rubber, having climbing almost exclusively in Five Ten's before, I was really frustrated with the ability to stay on small chips and smears, I was always feeling like I was about to slip and smash my face in to the wall -stretch, I bought these true to my street size, thinking that I wanted comfort and being synthetic I wouldn't have to worry about stretch. After a month I felt as though my feet were drowning in these shoes, not daring to even attempt heel hooks.
We got a pair of these for my wife so we could start climbing outside. (no more stinky gym rentals) They are perfect. Her normal shoe size is between 8 to 8.5, and we bought these in size 7.5. They fit tight enough that she takes them off after each climb, but they are still comfortable while climbing. The velcro closures are way better than laces. They smear great, and edge awesome. The rubber is soft and sticky, but not so soft that sloppy footwork removes lots of material. They are perfect for beginners, seasoned climbers, or Vegan climbers of any experience level. I use the larger volume Defy from Evolv, and if we ever wear these out, we will get more of the same again. We love them.
Velcro is faster to put on and take off, so it's generally on the more aggressive shoes, but lace-ups are more adjustable and people like them on shoes that are less aggressive and are meant to be worn all day.
I believed this shoe might work for sport climbing, but in fact I find this shoe most superior for crack climbing. The small amount of face climbing I've done in them made me feel less-than-assured of their edging abilities, but they are the bomb diggity for jamming in cracks or smearing against tiny fingertip cracks and seams! On slab they smear relatively well too but for desperate, performance smearing I still prefer my Mythos; Elektra's asymmetrical toe makes for less surface area to friction.
it says 100% satisfaction several places on the site. Then if you click the link it says this "We guarantee complete satisfaction and an unlimited lifetime warranty. If at any time - now, next month, in 30 years - you're not 100% satisfied, send your gear back for a full refund. No questions asked."
I am a beginner climber, and I really like this shoe. It is solid and has worked really well to help me improve on more technical moves. I read other reviews warning on bad sizing, and I got a smaller size accordingly. The shoe fits well, although it is a little on the tight side for my wide feet.
I was disappointed in these shoes; they were my second pair of climbing shoes. My first, the Scarpa Techno were a good beginner shoe but not so good for small footholds. I liked the fit but using them I noticed it was harder to smear (slicker rubber) I am currently trying to return them... (worn once) I am going to try the 5.10 Anasazi LV next, hopefully they will not disappoint.
#1 rule... measure your foot! After you are sure you actually know your size... Try fitting them straight across street shoe to climbing shoe if you are a beginner. 1/2 size down from your 'true' street shoe size if you have some experience climbing. And if you want more of a performance (ouch) fit try them 1 size down from your street shoe. Also, keep in mind the shoes will not change size over time due to the synthetic upper. They will break in a little but they won't change size. Hope this helps...
I bought these for my girlfriend who is just starting to enjoy climbing after I've been forcing her on dates to the gym for years. Having more then your average beginners experience with climbing shoes, and after trying on a lot of different brands, she fell in love with these. A side from being "The cutest shoes I've ever seen!" They fit amazing and the rubber grips like a pro. I don't know if it is the shoes or not, but she as started out climbing all my guy friends.
These shoes are super flexible, comfortable and long lasting. I recently just retired a pair that I used every time I climbed in the gym and outside and they lasted nearly a year. They are a really good shoe if your looking for something comfy to climb just about anything in. They aren't very good heel hooking shoes, but for everything else they're great. The HERA's are a better women's heel hooker if that's what you're looking for. Don't be fooled by the low price, these are stellar shoes!
They're fairly decent as far as comfort and fit for this type of slipper. They are better for footwork than my Mythos (still my favorite for trad climbing). At first it was very annoying to find they get VERY smelly VERY quickly. Then I discovered I can wash them in Woolite in the sink (after spraying with Lysol) and they are as good as new. They're inexpensive enough that rather than have them resoled, I just buy a new pair every few months.
these are great shoes for a beginner or intermediate climber. i have been bouldering about a year and love these. i purchased my street shoe size (8.5), and it's just right (don't size down in these since they have a synthetic lining and won't stretch). these are really comfortable, and you will be tempted to keep them on for hours at a time. don't do that, however, because the synthetic liner will make your feet sweaty and stinky. if this happens, you can wash them out with a gentle detergent and warm water. take an old toothbrush and scrub the inside. then, put dr. scholl's foot powder in them after they dry. they'll be a lot better. i highly recommend these shoes--and the price can't be beaten.
I have climbed in Evolvs for 4 years now, and I picked these up last season. They are by far THE BEST climbing shoes I have. I can wear them all day when I boulder but they still give me enough support and control to crack climb & smear granite. Plus, Evolv's rubber cant be beat. Its the softest and stickiest rubber I have ever felt. Seriously, you will LOVE these!!
I have had these for almost 6 months now. Since I first tried them on my feet have never loved a shoe so much.. not to mention a climbing shoe! The way these shoes are designed for a women's perfect or awkward shaped food make them extraordinarily comfortable for a long day inside big wall or outdoor bouldering, leading, etc. Easy to slip on and off keeps your feet still in tact by the end of the day. My feet sweat quite a bit, but the lining in these keeps them super dry and doesn't rub the wrong way. Very durable too!! Its hard to go back to my beginner la sportiva's (though they're a great shoe too), padded and shaped is amazing.
I am a beginner and I did not know what the best shoe for me would be. I had a chat with somebody from this site to get some help. As I did not want to buy the moste expensive sho he recommended this one. I can say I like them and after a few time wearing them they fit very well. I love the colour and the style. The only concern I have is being carefully with ordering the correct size. I was not aware that climbing shoes must be so tight. My street shoe size is 8-8,5 and I have 8 in my climbing shoes. According to review I ordered 7,5 but they were too small. Finally this is a really nice shoe and absolutely appropriate for beginners like me!
I have demoed these shoes out and I am so impressed with them. The only thing on them is the sizing is a bit funky. I normally wear a size 71/2-8 in shoes and this shoe I fit in a 7, could even go 6 1/2. They are not leather so they do not stretch out like a leather shoe does. They are very supportive in the toe box. I can stand ballerina style on these shoes and they are as supportive as my ballet toe shoes. These would be great for boulder and sport climbing. anything long and you need more support look at the Evolv HERA
These shoes are great. I'm a semi beginner in the world of climbing and find these shoes very comfortable and easy wearing. Velcroe makes a world of difference and they haven't developed a smell after wearing constantly with no socks. They are super grippy.
I love these shoes! I have been climbing for 4 years now and have been through a good amount of shoes... these are by far my favorite!! Good for trad and sport. They are super comfy right out of the box and the rubber is super sticky!
These shoes are a great "first pair" I started climbing about a year ago and bought these. I love the design of them and they fit great- true to street size, (only slightly more snug because they are suppose to be) My only 2 complaints are that they smell TERRIBLE after a few months, and the rubber on mine wore through completely in about 8 months (after climbing 1-2 times per week). Other than that they are a comfy and good looking climbing shoe that performs well.
I started climbing a few months ago and bought these shoes mainly because they were the only ones in my size available at the store. Luckily they turned out to be great shoes, even if my criteria for buying them wasn't good! However, I disagree that they don't stretch..mine stretched quite a bit. I bought them in my street size (6) and am wishing that I'd sized them down because they've stretched out considerably. In fact, I'm probably going to buy another pair in a smaller size even though the pair I have is in great condition. I should've listened to the salesperson in the shop :) The others are right about the smell...they were overpowering after just a couple of times. I sprinkle some baby powder in them after climbing and that has taken care of it. Not sure if that will affect the shoe's life span but so far it's fine.
My first pair of climbing shoes. I bought them half a size smaller than my normal shoes, and they were a little uncomfortable at first. I broke them in though and I love them. The straps are awesome and I love the color!
These are by far the best fitting climbing shoe that I've ever tried. The heel is not super big and I can wear them all day if I need to. They work great both for bouldering and sport climbing. I love these shoes!
