Elan 999 Wood Ski

The Elan 999 Wood Ski caters to skiers who want a powder fatty that doesn’t sacrifice groomer-ripping performance. This ski delivers with heavy lumber, on piste and off. Rugged sidewall construction provides major torsional rigidity and a laminated wood core gives this ski a relatively stiff yet smooth, progressive flex for high speed carving on firm snow. The 99mm waist excels in the light and white the lifted tail offers increased maneuverability front to back while sketching into steep chutes and critical couloirs.

Bottom Line: Shred the steep and deep, and then rip the groomers on the Elan 999 Wood Ski.

Fantastic ski!!!

I'm 5'10" 200lbs. Ripped the 999, 185's with Marker Jester's in Aspen/Snomass 80 days last season in every condition and on every terrain, They're a bit heavy but the they push you to charge down. Great float in pow, stable at high speeds, no chatter, tails are shaped enough to switch at lower speeds, great all around ski. Not recommended for park or back-country because of heft.

I have skied on the 777's and the 888's over the last couple of seasons and think they are terrific. Bought the 999's thinking they would be similarly good skis. Turns out they are way too heavy and unresponsive, very hard to turn in any heavy snow conditions, ok on groomers if you lay them way over. They come with a lot of structure in the base which probably creates some of the problem in turning, I am going to have my base redone to try to fix the problem.

Enjoyable enough.

They worked well on the groomers and busting through crud. I skied the 174s, which suited me well, an advanced skier of 190 lbs. at 5'10". Did not get to ski powder with them, but imagine they would float pretty well with the girth. One of the points I really did not dig on them was the weight. They were just a bit too heavy, especially skiing them in a 174.
