Ex Officio BUZZ OFF Convertible Pant - Men's - 2005

Mother Nature created some beautiful sunsets and awesome fishing, but in the process she made mosquitoes, too. The BUZZ OFF Insect Shield Insect Apparel line from Ex Officio presents a no-hassle solution to the problem of little bloodsuckers. At heart, the BUZZ OFFs are a pair of unassuming hiking pants with partially gusseted legs and quick-drying fabric. But their insect-repellent finish, UV resistance, and shorts-to-pants convertibility prove that the BUZZ OFF Pants are much, much more than your average hiking duds.

Bottom Line: Hikers love them; bugs hate them.

HIghly Recommended

I don't yet know about the "keeping bugs away", but the fit is perfect and the pants are lightweight, thus drying quickly when taken on a trip. I just returned from China and I wore them almost every day. Very comfortable. I highly recommend them.

Great Pants!

By:

I've been in Panama studying birds for three weeks, and I've worn the pants extensively. In a country known for chiggers, mosquitoes, and generally bad bugs, I've yet to receive any bad bites. Highly recommended!

By:

I returned both pairs of pants because they were too short. I thought the service was great and would order from you again.

It worked

By:
July 17, 2006

I wore these pants to an off-road outing in humid central Texas. They were quite comfortable. The converted shorts were appropriate length for me. I did not get stung by any insects. I wore it in combination with my buzz-off fishing shirt. I gave it a 4 instead of a five because the mosquitoes weren't quite out that day and at night I had a mosquito tent to sleep under so the "buzz-off" quality is still not quite tested.

Get the Job Done

Keeps bugs away - yes
Pants to shorts - yes
Good pockets - yes
Light weight - yes
quick dry - yes
I have used them from Canada's Quetico Park, the Russian Arctic and Colorado and Wyoming in late Spring backpacking. For me, they are a vital backcountry piece of equipment. I have worked for ExOfficio as sales rep for a year now, and was a customer for many years before that. The product works and it lasts!

Old man style

Yeah, they do keep the bugs away from your legs. They just have that "Old dude Sans-a-belt slacks look" about them that really doesn't do it for me. As an added bonus, when the legs are off you've got "Slightly too short to look normal" shorts... there's just no winning here.

I also found the zippers to be irritatingly fiddly getting the legs on and off; they catch a lot and don't seem terribly durable.

Technically these are well thought out pants that deliver the technical features they promise, but their bizzarre look has left them languishing in the back of my closet.
