Dynastar Legend Sultan 85 Ski

Dynastar broke the mold with the Legend Sultan 85 Ski. This extremely versatile mid-fat ski’s wide, stable platform soars on the soft stuff, and a deep sidecut endows it with agility in dicey and hardpack conditions. The Legend Sultan 85 Ski comes with Jeremy Nobis’ stamp of approval—“This is the best all-around ski I’ve ever skied” kind of means a lot coming from him.

  • Wood and Titanal sandwich construction blends a lightweight, responsive wood core with Titanal alloy for bomber torsional rigidity, stability, and steady flex
  • Wood core is milled in the center to reduce weight and transmit force directly to the ski’s edges
  • Easy turn initiation and low swing weight makes technical terrain easier to navigate
  • All-mountain footprint performs solidly in a full spectrum of conditions, making this a fine one-quiver ski
  • Graphite additives in the ski’s VHMW base feed the ski’s speeding habit

Bottom Line: A ski you’ll feel confident on whether you’re in a constricted powder chute, slightly-spaced trees, or a wide-open snowfield.

Any skiers out there that have tried these skis? Are they lifeless

Any skiers out there that have tried these skis? Are they lifeless at the end of the turn? How do they ski compared to a Mantra? Compared to a Phantom SC80? I hear they are very versatile but sometimes that means boring.

I skied both this past weekend on back to back days at Mammoth Mtn, CA. For context I can ski anything at any resort -- prefer steeps and trees. weakness: can't bang the bumps. I've been skiing on my old X screams for 5-6 yrs and am demo'ing to find a new pair.

Phantoms... great release out of turns, loved it. Bad initiating new turns... I had to watch right in front of my skis to make sure they were doing what I asked. TERRIBLE on the GS speed. if I hit any kind of speed they were worthless. the tip is way too soft.

Sultan 85s -- LOVED THEM. all round awesome. so easy getting into new turns, and handled high speeds with great stability. the skis always did exactly what I asked of them within hesitation. I didn't notice the same release feeling as the phantom's but i think that's because the Sultans excelled in so many areas. They weren't so earth-shattering that I had to buy them on the spot... I still want to demo a few more before I make up my mind but they are a definite contender... especially at the price.

bottom line: there's no comparison... Sultans were better skis for me.

I skied these over the weekend, mostly groomed with lil crud all over. Dead on what the magazines say about them. Great overall ski. Pulls you in quick with a non exciting but controlled exit out of the turn. Very good edge grip but I will say the factory tune felt railed a bit. Lays down great arcs with good stability, very even flex pattern. Decent in moguls, stable and smooth in crud. Complaint I have with them is very heavy in the tips/shovels. They're narrower than my Mantra's(same length) and quite a bit heavier, did not expect that at all! Hence even more damp, Mantra's had more life. Cant figure out why so tip heavy?
