Dynafit TLT Vertical FT Z12 Binding

You want your legs to be as fresh as possible when you attack the tight shoots and navigate rocky cliffs. This means light equipment (and steel thighs). Since you also need max lock-down for the descent, Dynafit made the TLT Vertical FT Z12 Binding both light and strong.

  • The combination of CrMo steel, stainless steel adds strength while keeping weight low (538g without stopper)
  • Low height for direct energy-transfer to ski
  • Four metal attachment points distributes force evenly for torsional stability and control during descents
  • Self-guiding wings for quick entry
  • Activate the climbing heel-support system easily with your pole tip
  • Won Backcountry 09 Editors Choice

Bottom Line: DIN-12 committed.

I have a pair of Voile Drifters (125-128 underfoot) on the way and I am interested in equipping them with Dynafit...but I have heard that Dynafit is not the way to go with a wide ski. Any advice?

I used dynafit ft 12s to quickly ascend to this icy backcountry run on Mount Washington and relied on them to keep me dialed in on the way down! SCORE

WOW

I have had these bindings since last fall, when my legs are tired from resort skiing, i can still bang out a superior lap before the resort opens. The tour effortlessly. Kick turns (changing direction in the skin track) finally made sense to me after getting this ski. So light and you can lock in, what more do you need. The only problem i have found is that ice builds up under the toe, but just carry a thin tool with you to chizzle it away and make sure you are fully locked in. Also they are a bit pricey but should last years.

Do you really need a jig to mount these bindings? Isn't

Do you really need a jig to mount these bindings? Isn't there a template/guide provided somewhere?

I would say the key to using the paper template is making sure (and then checking three or four times) that you have the centerline perfectly marked. That is the hardest part. Also make sure you have the right bits to drill into the skis. Smaller diameter for wood core, bigger diameter for metal. That is a mistake you won't make twice

If you're very capable (and careful) with woodworking in general, and download (and read carefully) all the material from WildSnow.com, then you can mount Dynafits accurately by yourself without a mechanical jig. I think my first attempt that way took about two hours. After that, subsequent mounts took about an hour. But once I bought the mechanical Dynafit jig, mounts now take only about twenty minutes.
