Simply the best child carrier available

By:
November 30, 2009

The suspension on this carrier is so robust, that one could carry a child that exceeds the recomended weight. Bom-proof and easily adjustable between different size child sherpas.

Super pack

By:

This is a great no fuss, no problem pack. Easy to adjust, seemingly comfortable for the kid and the sunshade works great. Work well for both my wife and I. Good choice for hiking families.

Deuter Kid comfort pack

By:
January 21, 2008

I absolutely love this pack! It is so much more comfortable for me than my Kelty- I use it all the time. I haven't even used my stroller for my 1 year old since I have bought this pack. Definitely worth the $.

Tried several others & this is the best

By:
December 15, 2008

I have tried the Kelty backpack-style, and my son was way too big and felt unstable in there. Then a Kelty top-of-the-line Adventurer. Son was comfortable but I was not comfortable no matter what adjustments I made. I am around 5' 11 light weight medium frame. The Kelty was also so big & bulky and was a pain to fold down. And the auto-kick-stand never worked right, and was annoying because it swung out when there kid wasn't in the pack. Next we tried a Phil & Ted's Metro carrier. Nice and small, but uncomfortable for me. This one remains to be sold.

When I first tried a Deuter, I knew I found the right one. This one is significantly more comfortable than the others. It has the right balance of size - comfort - weight. The adjustments are well thought out. It is super comfortable and does a great job distributing the weight properly. The entrance and exit is much improved over the kelty, a huge plus. My son (20 months) love to buckle the buckles himself. The 7-point harness is ingenious, comfortable, secure, and easy to buckle once you get used to it. There is adequate room in the pack, with several closed and open pockets. I even used the "hydration pack compartment" to store flat things, like magazines.

The pack folds down/compacts very easily. We recently traveled internationally with it and no one minded us bringing it on board in addition to our carry-ons because I had it folded down. It is also very well made - the German engineering is apparent, even in the sturdy frame itself.

After all the other packs we used, this is the only one that I still look forward to, still find comfortable, and still use regularly for hours at a time. My son weighs around 30 lbs and I think it will be no problem to keep carrying him around this way for at least another 10 lbs.

Another benefit is that the frame support allows my son to rest his legs on it. I suspect this helps prevent his legs from falling asleep due to lack of circulation.

We also purchased the sunroof/rain cover, rain cover, and neck cushion. The accessories are neat. We've only used the sunroof/rain cover so far and it worked just fine.

My lil trooper

Just got this pack and trying it out ~so far it's awesome! Had to adjust the straps a bit to make more weight on my hips. She is about 20lbs (10months) now.

Great buy!

By:
May 15, 2007

Bought this for short hikes around the city & park, and shopping. The waist belt if very roomy for bigger people. The carrier is light and has tons of storage space, so no need for baby/kid bags.
We are planning a trip abroad and will be taking this carrier with us.

I am waiting for my pack to arrive (just ordered it) and am wondering which size/type of hydration bladder to get.... one that will fit nicely in the pocket in this pack. Looking online I found a Deuter Streamer for 1-3Litres but am curious if there is something better? Thanks!

Personally I dig the CamelBak Unbottle. Really nice bladder, and has some insulation built in to keep liquids cool.

Great Infant Backpack!

By:
March 4, 2008

My wife and I purchased the Kid Comfort II to use with our 10 month old daughter. Once adjusted properly, the Backpack rides comfortably on the hips and distributes the weight evenly between the shoulders and lower back. For those longer hikes, I have found that a neck brace would be nice for our daughter when she starts nodding off and leans her head forward on the handle rest. Overall, both my daughters and our overall comfort are greatly improved with this backpack. We are all now able to enjoy hiking and the outdoors. Finally, we tried the Kid Comfort I and found it did not have enough padding, and the Kid Comfort III had too much padding was a little bulky.

Perfect Pack

By:

All the reviews are true, this pack rocks. My little girl loves it. Has all the adjustment straps to keep you comfortable and your little safe. The only thing that could be an issue is if you have broad shoulders. I just fit.

Will this fit a four-year-old (approx 40" tall and about 42lbs) with a 5'4" mom? I need something for the short hike to school in the wintertime, as well as for trips into town on the train. Thx.

Fantastic Pack

By:
March 25, 2009

This is the most comfortable child carrier backpack I've worn. It has a lot of adjustments to get the fit just right. The seat for the child is nice because it is a seat instead of a hole you drop your child into. Plenty of room to bundle your little one up and still fit (took ours snoeshoeing).

You should believe the hype

By:

This is a fantastic child carrier. Very adjustable, so it can be switched from mommy to daddy with minimal hassle. My son is very content while riding in it, and the sun/rain shade works well. It is as comfortable as any weekend pack I've worn, and the hydration sleeve + storage capacity make it usable for long days on the trail and winter activities. My wife even uses it to hold a fussy kiddo while she vacuums the house.

Great Pack!!!

By:
July 23, 2009

This pack was a great buy. My daughter loves to be in it even when I am not wearing it. We have used it both on the trail and while visiting Washington DC. It makes traveling and site seeing so much easier with the comfort and extra storage. Now that we have this pack we have more reason to get out and enjoy nature and all the great things that is offers.

I would recommend this pack to anyone with young kids who like to travel, hike and site see.

Backcountry made this purchase a great experience also. I have now found my new favorite online retailer for all my outdoor needs.

Nice carrier

By: Backcountry.com Employee
September 24, 2007

I picked the Deuter Kid Comfort II because it has a place for your hydration bladder, lots of room to carry the kidlet's diapers, clothes, and food, and it's a color my fiance is willing to wear (I like the Sherpani pack too, but the flower logo and colors didn't appeal to him). I wish it came with a sun/rain shade, but at least I can order it separately (though at the moment, Backcountry.com isn't selling any. Bummer.)
Overall, I'm really happy with this pack. It's comfortable to wear, even when the kid is squirming and it weighs 25 pounds, and it's easy to adjust. My fiance is only a couple inches taller than I am (I'm 5' 9"), so I can't speak to how comfortable it is for someone really tall or short, but it works great for us.
I wear it to walk around the park or at a festival just as often as I wear it to go hiking in the mountains. Our kid (he's 7mos), seems to like the ride.
It's got enough storage that we could possibly do a short backpacking trip - that's the plan, anyway.

Works great!

By:
March 25, 2008

I just purchased the Deuter KidComfort II and am extremely satisfied with the product. The sun/rain shield works great in contrast to the one that my brother was using with a different brand backpack. 3 different people carried my daughter in the pack and none of us had any problems adjusting the carrier to our sizes. It also is well padded for the child in case they fall asleep, and my daughter really seemed to enjoy herself in the backpack. It is lightweight, easy to adjust, and really not that bulky. I definitely would recommend this product to a friend!
