DAKINE Guide Backpack - 3000 cu in - 2006

The DAKINE Guide Pack is a technical workhorse for serious gear junkies who need the 3000cu inches of packing space to get deep into the backcountry. This pack is tricked out to organize the spectrum of backcountry necessities. Two customizable aluminum stays keep this large pack balanced under heavy loads and can be removed for shorter snow adventures. If you have to remove your skins to boot-pack up a steep ridge, the Guide Pack is built to carry skis (diagonal) or a snowboard (vertical). Take a break and get at your extra layers and food—top and side access allow you to get to your gear without removing your plank(s). An external pocket stores your shovel blade and offers quick access to your climbing skins and snow safety equipment. Your hydration reservoir slips into the insulated Hydro-Sleeve, while most digital point-and-shoot cameras fit into the waist-belt pocket. DAKINE designed this serious pack for overnighters and trips deep into the winter hinterlands.

Bottom Line: If the DAKINE Guide Pack isn't enough to satisfy your gear addiction, go to rehab.

Dakine Guide Pack

By:

Great first pack for me. I used it a few weeks ago to hike tuckermans ravine on mount Washington with all my gear, it fit all my stuff great and It did the job well through the rain and kept everything completely dry. Although this is the only pack I have owned, it is great and I would definitely recommend it

Purchased Guide for Versatility

By:

I used the Dakine Guide backpack for a 3 week trip to Europe. Close contenders were the Osprey Porter 46 and the Gregory G Pack. The fabric of the ultralight Gregory seemed too fragile for train travel. The Osprey offered better security. I went with the Dakine because I foresee using this pack all winter. My crosscountry skis and snowshoes will carry nicely, and I made sure my kid's snowboard strapped on well, too. I was able to tuck the many straps for travel during plane and train travel. Good volume and convenient access through back panel.

Previous years were better

I owned a version of this pack that was a few years old and I am disappointed in the new style. I think the old style had more versatility and had all the options the new one does. However, on the positive side this pack has great access to the main cargo pocket.

Great choice

I actually got this backpack for my boyfriend. Before I got it for him, he was borrowing the exact same one from a friend for Summer skiing. He said it's one of the most conveniently designed ski bags he's used- just the perfect size for a day trip or for backcountry skiing.

Great pack good for a day pack or overnight. Plenty of room. Nice and light. Back and side entry is great. You can access stuff in the pack without unloading it from the top. Awsome! Also comes with the great warrenty and quality Dakine always delivers.
