The Dakine Fall Line Double Ski Bag safely stashes two set of powder sticks for your next cross-country ski trip. The durable 600D polyester fabric stands up to the beating the baggage guys put on your gear, and the thick layer of padding protects your planks from the worst abuse.
Exterior pockets hold boots, outerwear, etc.
Full-length zipper allows easy access to your skis
Durable urethane wheels haul heavy loads with ease
Locking zipper cars keep your gear secure
Bottom Line: A padded quiver for your powder hunts.
I just finished a boys trip to Utah and the bag worked great. It held a pair of Katanas and P4s. It was a bit snug, but given the girth of the boards I can't complain. Trying to carry ski boots too is not possible, but since the airlines have a 50 pound weight limit, it doesn't matter. The wheels made getting the loaded bag around a much nicer experience than trying to lug it on my shoulder. Great travel bag for two sets of powder skis.
Well padded, good gear stashing capability (helmet, boots, jacket, pants, gloves, two pairs of poles and ONE pair of skies). You have got to get creative if you are going to try to fit gear AND two pairs of skis in here...
Ok i just got mine in the mail (190cm) and the only way to get a pair of skis (mine are 179) and a pair of boots (i wear a size 13 shoe) is to take the skis apart lay them flat with the bottom of the skis touching the back of the bag then place a SINGLE boot in each pocket on either end of the top flap (see dakine's web site for a pic of boot placement). I have K2 kung fujas and if i had a second pair of skis i dont know if they would fit. certainly not with a pair of boots. if you are looking for a bag that will fit 2 pair of skis and boots then look at the north face base camp and AS ski rollers. I then filled all the "dead space" with my ski clothing, base layers, shells, socks and pants and i plan to take a small suitcase for my bar cloths. Update: if you lay your skis flat like i have done then use a shoe lace to tie back the brake of the binding to the ski so it is not supporting the ski. the reason for this is the brake will eat a hole through the bag during transit. mine even put a hole in two base-layers. i just patched the small hole that was created.
Even if it does have enough room for a helmet, I'd avoid putting one in. I like to keep my helmet with me, can't really trust the baggage handlers to treat it with care. You can't know if it may have taken a bad impact and be worthless when you pull it out of the bag.
I have the 109cm model and have no complaints. Bag material seems very rugged on the outside and the padding on the inside is very nice. Impressed with the materials Dakine used. As far as performance goes I was able to get one pair of 175cm Pocket Rockets, poles, ski boots, gloves, boots for around town, all my ski clothing, and 3 days of clothing for around town. I put my helmet in a separate backpack but might have been able to fit the helmet if I took less shoes or clothing. Once fully loaded my bag was pretty heavy(duh). My first ski trip with this bag was a road trip, so I am interested to see how this works with the airlines when I fly to Utah in March. I am going to have the bag weighed at UPS when its fully loaded. I will update this review after my trip and let you all know what oversize or overweight fees (if any) I had to pay at the airport.
I´ve used this bag for a year now, and it´s pretty solid. Can fit two pair of skis or one pair of skis and one pair of boots. Although, I would never recommend anyone two have their boots in the checked in luggage when flying. There´s also plenty of room for outerwear, gloves etc. If you want to fit more than two pair of skis though, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
I agree with the previous - I have a Double Fall Line, my friend has the Concourse. He doesn't need another bag to pack anything in, I do! Not convinced two pairs of big skis would fit in here if you're putting your ski boots in the outer pockets though. It would take skillful packing!
The outer material is different. The concourse also has more pockets. Also, although similarly sized, the concourse is much bigger. It is an inch and a half wider, and comes in a 185 and 200 vs. the 175 and 190 of the fall line double. I'm not sure if this is still the case, but the concourse used to come with compression straps on the inside to tighten your gear down. With all that being said, I'd go with the fall line. I think it's a better value, and with airlines charging as much as they do, you'll be less likely to overpack, and have to pay extra fees for being overweight.
Decided to check out the 190 cm bag despite some critical reviews. Haven't used it yet but loaded it at home. Holds 2 pairs of skis (163x94 & 171x78) and 1 pair of AT boots. Trick is to place one pair of skis on edge, the others flat next to each other; one boot at each end in separate compartment. Seems to be very well made. More to come after I've used it.
Just picked up this bag and it seems like it's pretty durable, we'll see how it handles once I actually head out to Denver by plane for some skiing.
A word of warning to those of you who are thinking about getting the Bomber color, its an dark olive green trim not really gray like in the picture. And white is really not that white, it's more of a tanish-olive color as well. I ended up sending it back and got the Patches color scheme instead, should look a little better hopefully!
Update on my review, I had a chance to take this bag to Denver for ski trip. First of all the patches color is a lot better. But like the other reviews, this bag really could use some redesign. I only had one pair of skis and poles and my other gear (jacket, pants, helmet, gloves, goggles) and there really wasn't any room for my boots in the separate boot pockets. I couldn't even imagine trying to put two pairs of skis in it, you wouldn't have room for hardly anything else. Overall, it works and it is a better price than some of the other bags, but it's not the best...
The 170s will most likely fit. There is usually a tiny bit of extra room. With that being said though, it is nice to go a size up to fit some extra gear when travelling, like your helmet, goggles, etc. 170 should work for 170 skis though.
I have a 185cm bag from Dakine that fits my 185s just fine. so i would say if you are skiing 170 then get the 170. however, if there is a chance you will get a bigger ski in the future then buy up. you can always pack extra stuff in your ski bag.
I have never owned a better ski bag. It got so much room for clothing, boots etc. The wheels are super-durable and made for hard use. I would never choose anything else than DaKine ski bags after this.
will this bag fit my K2 Hellbents 179 w/Marker Dukes and Line Elizabeths w/Marker Baron bindings? I have fat skis and am just wondering if they will both fit, especially the bents. Thanks
I can say that i can fit two 100mm skis with freeride AT bindings in my bag. you may need to flip a set so the bindings don't line up. but it should work.
I have owned other roller bags namely a 200cm Head 4 pair bag, but I was looking for a bag that has some clothes storage. I thought the boot compartment would be good for that. With 2 pairs of skis in the bag though the compartments are a bit on the small side. i was really hoping for much larger storage option, but all in all it's a good bag, nice grips and well padded.
Usually, I pack my ski bag with two pairs of skis, 3 poles, one pair of boots, spinal-protector and random outerwear spread throughout the bag. If you pack anymore the airline might stop you and give you a big fat fine. And that is really annoying.
You should pack your skis with bases facing each other and connected with the breaks. Otherwise, you might run into some problems with your brakes making holes in your bag because of the pressure.
I would not recommend this bag for those who are looking for a bag to hold all of your necessary gear. It fits two pairs of skis and poles just fine, but I was told that it would also hold two pairs of boots, and it doesn't even hold one pair of women's size.
