DAKINE Split Convertible Bag - 6425cu in - 2008

The DAKINE Split Convertible Rolling Gear Bag knows that sometimes you just gotta bring everything. But unfortunately "everything" usually means overweight baggage charges. No more. This DAKINE rolling duffle bag easily divides into two separate sections, so you can organize your gear and check two bags to stay under the per-bag weight limit. At 6425 cubic inches, this massive bag gives you plenty of room for ski, snowboard, or surf gear. The retractable handle and quality urethane wheels give the DAKINE Split Convertible a better ride than a Coupe Deville—even a convertible one.

Bottom Line: Pack it, split it, and get away.

Good For The Money

By:

Purchased this and the similar one that is one piece and used them both on an Asian adventure through five countries and at least ten airplanes. Both units got beat on by the airlines but held together.

Had I to do it over again, I'd probably buy to of the one piece ones rather than the split convertible. But who knows, the two piece may come in handier on a future trip.

Considering I paid under $175 for both, you really can't get cheap no-name luggage for that price so I'm happy.

BTW, mine are in "Folsom" and it looks great in person.

This bag only snaps together with the four straps on the sides and the velcro loops on the top and bottom. No zipper between the two sections.

Mixed opinion

The bag definetely looks cool but I don't like that these are two separate shallow sections jointed by two velcros and 4 straps. I guess these days it doesn't matter if you can split the sectioons since the maximum you can carry is 50 pounds and the charge for a second bag is high. Not sure if I would have bought it if I'd seen it at a store first but it does the job and looks nice.

Would someone that owns this bag post pics of the pockets? Asking

Would someone that owns this bag post pics of the pockets? Asking as I'd seen it in stores and the underside of the top half has zippered side pockets just big enough to hold boots, and a zippered center section. This is what I wanted as I could use that half when at a resort as my gear bag up to the slopes. I ordered it (from another source unfortunately) and the bag I received, despite being the correct model number and name, had just one big zipper pocket on the underside of the top half. I'm not sure if perhaps I bought an older model/version of the bag or what.

Got a hold of Dakine and asked them. Seems they've changed the design in the last year or so from three separate pockets on the underside of the top half to one large pocket.

Poor quality

I have a 4 year old bag that has seen light use. Bottom seam gave out. Dakine's "lifetime" warranty response was that because its 4 years old, its "normal wear and tear". there are much better bags out there for similar and lower prices (Eagle Creek and Mountainsmith bags of same vinrtage/use are still going strong)
