DAKINE Fall Line Double Ski Bag

Not only does the DAKINE Fall Line Double Ski Bag carry two pairs of skis in its fully padded interior, it includes large external pockets to hold your boots as well. A full-length zipper allows easy access to help you pack and unpack the Fall Line Double Ski Bag. When you get to the airport, just roll this DAKINE bag along on its urethane wheels or carry it through the carnage with the top or end handles. DAKINE also added a limited-edition CMYK pattern to this bag for the 08/09 season that can't be found anywhere but here.

Bottom Line: Fully padded with lots of extra space.

A good bag explained

By:
February 16, 2009

I haven't traveled with the bag yet, but I bought this bag because I want to transport 1 pair of skis, one pair of boots, and some ski clothes, and it will do that perfectly fine. I laid my 2 skis (1 pair) separate from each other flat on the "floor" of the bag. My boots fit in the boot pockets just fine with the skis laying flat like that. If you have the skis hooked together by the bindings then they kind of interfere with the boot pockets. In other words, if you were trying to fit 2 pairs of skis and a pair of boots, you would have to be a little more creative, but you could probably fit it. It's just hard becuase the boots pockets go down into the bag where the ski tips and tails are, so if the skis aren't flat on the floor of the bag, the skis are in the way of where the boots need to go. I'm thinking the best way to fit 2 pairs of skis with a pair of boots would be to separate the skis, lay one pair flat on the bottom of the bag, and put the other pair up along the edges of the bag. That shouldn't interfere too much with the boot space. You might even be able to fit another pair of boots in the middle of the bag with the skis, but I'm not sure. Plus, that would probably make the bag overweight for a flight. You could probably do something similar with a snowboard and pair of skis if you laid the board flat in the middle of the bag and put the skis along the edges. Like I said, I haven't actually traveled with it yet, but so far the bag is just what I wanted.

Write your question here...Will the 190cm bag fit a pair of 194cm skis in it or will I have to go with the much larger Concourse Double Bag that comes in a 200 cm size?

I know that a 191cm ski fits in this bag, but it's tight, so I'm gonna say that you should up to the Concourse bag.

A huge struggle to get two skis (PM Gear Lhasa Pow 186 w/ dukes and Gotama 176 w/dynafit) plus one pair of 26.5 scarpa touring boots (alpine boots come on the flight with me). Otherwise good construction but doesn't really do as promised.

Great Bag

By:
February 2, 2009

It fits boot perfectly if you put them in the right way and has tons of room in it, and I have huge boots. I got the 190 bag and it fits my 174s with tons of room to spare.

Only slight downsides are that a strap would have been helpful just to carry around, even if you can't leave it on when you check the bag and every once in a while the bag with "droop" weird in the middle causing the bottom side of the bag to drag on the ground. Could have been solved by a slightly larger wheel.

But in the end, the thing is pretty bomb proof and I have no fear of my skis getting damaged by those crazy baggage handlers or anything stacked upon it. The zippers are solid and I've gotten tons of compliments on the CMYK pattern, which also makes it easy to find when everyone else just has a black bag.

I would buy this bag again and I would recommend it to a friend.

No problem. I used the bag last year cruising around Argentina with a pair of 190 Katanas and 185 Kuros. plenty of room for boots, skins, and goggles. Helmet might be a tough squeeze, but can always be attached anywhere. The concourse double is a great bag as well. It has a lot more room, but you may find yourself paying at the airline desk.

Solid and Roomy Bag

By:
December 3, 2008

Got the 190 bag and it easily fits two pairs of 185 twin tips. Great bag for one pair of skis and a ton of gear too. Padded linings are nice, the two outer pockets are pretty large and could fit up to a size 9 men's ski boot in each. There is no shoulder strap for carrying the bag, only the handle and roller. Overall great buy!

Snow version of the Dakine World Traveler Surf Bag

By:
April 17, 2009

Dakine came through again with a travel bag that you can throw around and never worry about the stuff inside getting wrecked. I have a there world traveler surf bag that fits up to 4 surfboards in it and have recently used my new Fall Line Double on a trip....Dakine does it right. Never a problem, always roomy enough to fit other things in besides your equipment and just sleek enough for some airlines not to bother you. If your a traveler, buy it now.

Nice Bag, but doesn't fit boots

By:
January 4, 2009

Build quality on this bag is top notch. I loaded it up to the max airline weight of 50 pounds and it and came through without any damage. Can't say that for any of my normal suitcases! One complaint though...if your skis take up the full length of the bag there's no way you'll fit your boots in too, which is not mentioned in the product description. I got the 190 length bag, and with a pair of 178 BD Megawatts and 170 Head Monster 72s I could only squeeze in one boot. The bag is not thick enough to have a boot sitting on top the skis...it has to sit next to them.

No divider panel. I think they weigh 8 or 9 lbs (check the dakine website). I think that if you are creative you could get 2 pairs in there. See my review for details.

Excellent bag-best for single ski

By:

Even though the bag is defined as a double bag, I found that it works best as a single. Well constructed. Boots fit, but barely. (Truthfully, we purchased two bags fully intending them to hold a single pair of skis)

#1 Bag of the US Freestyle Team

By: Backcountry.com Employee
December 9, 2008

I have to say that as a world traveler, with 2 pairs of skis at all times, this bag rocks. Loading it in and out of vans is super easy, it make-shifts as a good bed on layovers, especially when your waiting in Japan for the rest of your crew to arrive. There is no need for a strap, you can't have a strap anyways on the bag when you check it, the handle and wheels is more than durable enough to lay the rest of the junk you fly with on top and roll away.

If there where no such thing as a weight limit on flights, I would be able to fit 2 pairs of skis, poles, my riding gear, and a weeks worth of clothes nicely rolled up in this bag. You don't want to check your boots anyways. Save the weight and carry them on the flight with you as your "personal item".

Good Value

By:
March 5, 2009

Pros: I have traveled with the bag twice. It holds quite a bit of gear (cloths, tuning tools and misc. items) in addition to skis, boots and poles, so it helps reduce the amount of luggage to check with the airline, thereby saving those annoying fees for a second bag and or boot bag. Plus, I have stuffed it full of gear for a week and still not exceeded the 50 lb weight limit that triggers another hefty charge by the airlines. (Be careful what you pack for additional gear, however, exceeding 50 lbs can be costly). Extra room in the boot compartments for misc. items like toiletries, etc. that can’t get checked through in a carrying on is a big plus. The padding is good enough that nothing has been crushed as of yet.

Cons: Although the bag is billed as having the capacity to hold two pair of skis and boots, I can't see that being the case. I travel with 182cm boards and the positioning of the boot compartments make it a tight fit to close the bag with one pair of skis and no additional gear. I need wiggle room at the tip and tail of the bag to position the boots and skis properly so the bag closes. The boots tend to rest on the skis so a second pair of skis would most likely remove that wiggle room. Once you find the right positioning, lots of extra room.

It is also awkward to maneuver. When full, it is a loooong bag and doesn't corner easily. A shoulder strap would help, but this is pretty minor stuff.

Overall, it meets my needs, is one of the few bags I looked at that actually accommodates boots, and skis and is a solid value for the price.

I have a pair of 180s and I have plenty of room left, so I would say almost for sure you could fit 190s. I wear a shoe size 11 and my boots fit in fine. It's not so much of the boot size that is an issue. The issue is more that unless your skis are laying separate and flat, they interfere with where the boot pocket is.

It is a 1 pair bag. The bag is designed for the outdoor enthusiast with multiple "rides", not for the person who wants to have a "family bag".You might be able to put another pair of boots where the skis go if you get creative, but it would be tight.

travels with everything in my fall line bag

By:
April 13, 2009

With one pair of skis, boots, helmet, and clothes, the bag worked really well. I found lying the skis flat and separate worked best, and putting my boots at the wheel end of the bag made the wheels take more of the weight. I stuffed the boot pockets with jackets/pants, which added to the 'padding'. Overall, I am very satisfied with this piece of equipment, and moreover, with the service from Backcountry.

What's up? Yeah the size mentioned is the size of the bag itself. There is some give to them, so your skis would likely fit, but I agree with your snowboard bag idea. I like to cram my outerwear, helmet, spine protector, etc in my ski bag when I travel and keep my boots in sight at all times. Snowboard bags tend to be a lot roomier in my opinion.
