When a quick morning tour just won't scratch your backcountry itch, load up the spacious DAKINE Blade Pack and get into the mountains for a day of freshies. Thanks to 1800cu inches of main cargo space, a shovel pocket, and an insulated sleeve for your hydration bladder (not included), the Blade Pack keeps you going run after run. DAKINE gave this versatile pack both ski and snowboard carry systems, so you can cruise the fluffy snow on your ride of choice. With both top and panel access, you can get your gear even with your ride strapped to this pack.
This is a great pack, big enough to fit everything that you could need for a day in the backcountry, yet it can still cinch down to be small enough to not be bulky on those day when you don't need as much gear. Good organization, a separate avy pocket is a must for me and this pack has it. The pack distributes weight very well, and unlike some of dakines smaller packs theres never a problem strapping a board vertically, even if the pack is full. Was skeptical about the side ice axe placement at first, but its actually really great and super fast in and out. Great pack, no complaints.
Ok, firstly if I could give it 3.5 stars I would (assuming that 3 is average). I got this pack because my buddy carries an older version and it seems like Dakine's construction quality has slipped a bit (which is why it doesn't get 5 stars). To continue, the buckles that wrap around to the back of the pack end up digging into your back a bit when you carry skis (why it doesn't get 4 stars).
That being said, I would never go back to my old pack, it is the PERFECT size for light back country use and resort skiing if your going to head out of bounds. The balance of the pack with skis on it is good, and the nalgene pocket on the side is nice. The back panel opens which gives acces to your stiff without having to take your skis off. The goggle pocket on the top is great for hikeing, so you don't fog your goggles. I am sure this bag will rock for what I'm going to use it for but would change a few things if Dakine asked me.
Does anyone know if this current model of the Blade still have a clear plastic map case underneath the main top loader compartment? I know the original model did. Handy for checking the map w/o taking it out during a rest stop.
Id reccomend this to anyone for anything. Ive taken it skiing (both backcountry and resort), hiking, biking and airsofting. and to my job. Theres enought space to hold anything ya want. Also its made out of really strong fabric. get this over any other pack
I've used this pack for almost anything one can think of school snowboarding sleding hiking biking etc. Very durable and versatile for both skis and board. the only complaint i have about it is: if you ride fatty skis 110 underfoot + you'll have a hard time strapping them to this pack. It'll work but not easily nor really comfortably. It is my suggestion that this pack is more suited to the backcountry snowboarder, as a day hiking pack.
i have the poacher pack and i am having trouble putting the nozzle from the pack to the front strap. i would also like some pics of how the ideal way to set up this pack.
I use this pack when I head into the backcountry and do some touring. Holds all you avy gear, plus food, extra clothing, and anything else you want to throw in there. Lots of room. Great fit too. Shoulder strap and waist belt provide great support. There is also adjustment straps that connect the top of the pack to you shoulder straps to ensure an ideal fit. Awesome pack and super durable.
Great pack. I bought it with the intention of using it for long snowboarding days in the winter and long day hikes in the summer. The pack has exceeded all of my expectations. I have put this pack through two years of Alaska winters and summers. I have taken it snowboarding, climbing, hiking, and just about everything else you can do in Alaska and it is still in great shape. Plenty of room for everything you need. I recommend this pack for anyone looking for an all around all season day pack.
This Dakine Blade is a solid medium size pack. It's plenty roomy for everything you will need to be out for a day in the backcountry. Well constructed and good durability.
