DAKINE Tactic Backpack - 1500cu in

Slip your avalanche gear and daily essentials into the DAKINE Tactic Pack, turn on your beacon, and have an epic day in the backcountry. This backcountry ski backpack's 1500 cubic inch main compartment holds food and clothing for a day of touring, and the front shovel pocket keeps your avie gear close at hand. When you reach a craggy ridge, whip out a Red Bull from the large front pocket, secure your planks in the diagonal ski carry, grab your ice axe from the quickdraw sleeve, and get to the top of that couloir.

Bottom Line: Ahh... the backcountry. Have fun. Stay safe.

Hey all! I am trying to find a backpack to fit my daily life;

Hey all! I am trying to find a backpack to fit my daily life; I carry around my macbook pro 15in, sometimes a skateboard, and little gadgets. I also go skiing. I was looking at the Tactic '07 and saw that in the main compartment it has a sturdy insulated bladder sleeve that might accommodate my laptop. The '07 also appears to have waterproof zippers everywhere. Can someone tell me if they both have insulated bladder sleeves, waterproof zippers, and if they have *two* fleece lined pocket (one for goggles and one for camera)? Does it have the horizontal carry system like the Dakine Pro II? Does anyone have a favorite and why?

There is only one fleece lined goggle pocket. Doesn't seem like it can carry a skateboard really, and no laptop pocket is mentioned.

Try a different Dakine pack..

For some reason the nylon on this bag is really weak. The original and the replacement both had rips. The build quality seems really poor. Also the retractable ski carry cable on the bottom is a bit too short for my needs.

I went with the Pro 2 because it has more space, plus the water bottle pocket is a versatile external pocket and it has better dimensions (it's thinner).

This is the best ski pack I've owned. The retractable ski carry is solid. It carries my big fat pow pow skis without a problem. All the pouches and compartments are very useful. I've never had any problem with the durability and there's plenty of room for my avalanche gear plus lunch and a spare sweater. I especially like the camelback pouch on the inside with the insulated compartment that runs all the way down the shoulder strap. It has a little zipper part way down on the strap that allows you to access the spout. Very nice! This is an all around solid pack. I highly recommend.

It will work fine Henry. The retractable ski cord has plenty of length when fully extended for some nice fatty's.

Great Pack!

Perfect resort/side/backcountry pack. I was looking for something that didn't suffer too much from "strap-itis", had rear panel access, separate avy tools pocket to keep the wet shovel from my dry fleece, and an insulated hydration sleeve. For a day long excursion, you'll have to pack carefully as this bag is only 25L. I really like the way the ski carry system disappears. And it holds my 100cm waist skis just fine with little or no movement or swing. Very happy camper. Cheers.

This will not work. Check out the Sequence from Dakine. http://www.backcountry.com/store/DAK0781/DAKINE-Sequence-Backpack-w-Camera-Block-2000cu-in.htmlIt comes with the camera block and fits flawlessly.

Not well thought out.

I was looking for a lift-service/sidecountry pack to carry my DSLR and some light gear. While the diagonal carry was pretty slick, I hated all the extra length of the straps when the bag was compressed, something that could easily get caught in a chair, even when buttoned down with the integrated elastic bands. The fit was floppy and generic, the waist belt was too long and the excess strap that was folded up in the elastic stow bands on the waist was annoying, and it would frequently fall out and become a snag hazard. The material this pack is made out of feels like cheap nylon. I have an old DaKine Heli Pro II from 2003 thats made of a much stronger fabric, so I know they are capable of better. I returned it to BC.com and ended up with the Black Diamond Covert 22. No back panel access but a much better made, better fitting, and well designed back for what I needed.
