When you hit the resort this winter, throw your essentials in the DAKINE Heli Pack. As you post-hole to that stash just outside the boundary, the Heli Pack secures your mode of snow transpo in a vertical snowboard carry or a diagonal ski carry. Whether you ride one plank or two, 600cu inches of cargo space holds an extra layer and some grub, and an insulated sleeve keeps your water flowing freely. DAKINE added an expandable helmet slot for your lid and a top pocket for your goggles.
Bottom Line: The DAKINE classic comin' back for more.
There's no external water bottle sleeve or pocket. You'd have to put a water bottle in the back or attach it to the outside some other way. The pack is designed to carry a hydration bladder, and has an insulated sleeve for the hose.
The measurements are 20x10x3... which really isn't all that large. You would probably need to run to your locker DURING class. Try looking for packs more in the 1000 - 1800 cu range.
Great size for a day at the resort with some side-country trips, though it'd be nicer if it had a built-in Avalung. Perfect for a light amount for bootpacking - I can even fit my Volkl Kuros into the carry loop.
Yes if that is all you were carrying. But this pack is made to fit the shovel blade on the outside of the pack and it does not really carry a probe. If you want a pack that has all the bells and whistles then I would suggest stepping it up to the heli pro.
Small enough to wear comfortably while riding on the lift, insulated H2O shoulder strap keeps water from freezing (blowback helps on the coldest days), holds snacks and that neckwarmer you thought you wanted but are too hot for after one run, doubles as a small pack for bike rides and hikes,
Not idealy suited for carrying skis or board for very long, mostly due to limited hip support and thus a lot of shoulder strain. Short carries go pretty well though.
Great small pack that makes it easy to sit on the lift with. I prefer the extra space and padding of my heli pro for leaving heading off the ski resort though. The quality a few years ago was better; I dislike the coated metal ski carry loop on this model. These packs do last a long time, they are a great value.
how does it do carrying larger skis? say 135mm/105mm/122mm. also does it have enough room for a bladder and then like a little snack and a small video camera. also does it have a sleeve for your water tube on the shoulder strap?
I recently used this pack on my trip to UT. It was great for packing my kids and my lunch for the day with a little room for spare bandana, gloves, and cliff bars, not much else. I said a great little pack. It worked very well for The Canyons which is so big you never know where you will be eating lunch. The ski carrying device worked great and was very easy to load. If you are looking for a backcountry pack look larger at the 20L Heli pack.
A good pack. Some times I wish the waist strap had a pocket in it like the Heli Pro, but I did buy this pack to be small pack where I can take it skiing, on my street bike, or downhill mtb. It does the job well. Fits well on my back and does not feel bulky. Can sit on the lift without taking it off (where they don't make you take your pack off). So for 50 bucks you cant go wrong.
This pack is so cool. I bought it out west and used it to do a cliff several times and do some long hikes and it worked great. It holds the skis super well and the goggle holder is just the right fit. I just wish it was a little bigger because I ended up taking off a lot of layers as the day went on and I ran out of room. Overall it is a great pack.
This bag would probably work for school, but you wouldn't have much room to expand in size beyond your 2 books and notebook. That can actually be a good thing, it forces you to clean your pack out and not haul as much junk around. It can also be limiting, sometimes you might want to bring a Camelbak water bottle around, you know, for good health.
