With 3000cu inches of cargo space and plenty of backcountry features, the DAKINE Guide Pack takes on overnight and multi-day touring trips. This DAKINE backpack carries either skis or a snowboard, so you can ride your sled of choice on your long, secluded trip. A front shovel pocket keeps your avalanche gear quickly accessible in case of an emergency. The Guide Pack also includes a quick-draw ice axe sleeve for use on ski mountaineering trips and for riding in steep, technical, no-fall terrain.
Bottom Line: Why limit your time in the backcountry to a single day? Get out there for a weekend or longer with the DAKINE Guide Pack.
Even though the DAKINE Guide Pack is 3000cu in you would have to be an expert packer and be good at minimalist backpacking in order to fit all your supplies for several days in this pack. It has been done but the type of people who get by with this small of a pack on extended trips are the same type of people who take the pulls of their zippers and drill holes in their tooth brushes to save weight. I would look for something in the 4,000 - 5,000 cu in range. http://www.backcountry.com/store/group/42/Weekend-Packs-3000-4500-cu-in.html
This thing is great, I already wrote a review for it, I just want to know where they recommend you put your shovel head. There is no external pocket that comes close to fitting it, the only place I see is like the outermost pocket on any backpack.
You think this would be comfortable for a minimalist skate trip through europe? i'm like 5'2" and a gal, can anyone comment on how this fits (or reccomend a better bag)?
I like the low-profile design and the fact that it doesn't scream: BACKPACKING TOURIST.
The DAKINE Guide Pack is a very comfortable pack that comes highly recommended but most backpackers in Europe use something bigger to carry all their stuff. Don't forget you will be literally living out of your backpack. You did say that you will be on a "minimalist" trip so maybe this will work. It is more low profile then other packs out there but pretty much anyone with a backpack in Europe looks like a "Backpacking Tourist" as Europeans don't walk around cities with large packs on a regular basis because, well, they live there.
This bag is a great bag for anyone. whether you snowboard or ski, the ski and board holders are great along with the load compression straps and the fold out camelbak holder. also the thing is huge, its good for any trip. Also there are so may pockets that you will find uses for. I love all of the Dakine bags, this one especially
