DAKINE Low Roller Snowboard Bag - 4400cu in - 2004
The DAKINE Low Roller Snowboard Bag is a wheeled bodyguard for your board. Padded board protection ensures you'll hit those distant slopes with your board in one piece, even if the luggage handler thinks your bag is a Frisbee. A full length zipper allows for smooth board entry. Urethane wheels are durable enough to cross the Gobi desert, so they'll have no problem with even the most primitive airport.
Bottom Line: The wheels are the things on your snowboard bag that make contact with the road. Bummed is what you are if you don't have this bag.
I used the bag for skis, boots and poles. It was still a little long so I cinched it down with an old dog harness (sure made it easy to recognize at baggage claim). The construction is very good and strong. I only wish it had a few additional simple features like compression straps inside to hold gear in place, cinch straps outside to shrink it for a better fit around your gear, maybe a pocket inside for gloves, goggles, etc. The wheels are nice, but I didn't really use them as it was easier to navigate the airport when carrying the bag since its so long.
I just used this on a recent trip that involved four planes. It fits all the gear (board, helmet, boots) plus there is still plenty of room to add clothes throughout the bag for additional padding. My only complaint is that in order to take advantage of the wheels, you have to carry the bag using the handle at the end, instead of the handle in the middle because of the position of the wheels. That makes it harder to move through the airport, and part of the bag then drags on the ground. But apparently all snowboard bags are made this way, so there's no alternative. Aside from that, a great bag and very economical without compromising quality.
For the price I paid, I wasn't expecting much more than an adequate board bag. The Low Roller is quality, and far surpassed my expectations. I haven't found another bag out there that can compete. Buy it.
The bag holds all of the equipment we need to go snowboarding - bag, boots, goggles, helmet, etc. It is very durable. The wheels are great for rolling instead of having to carry it. Makes it easy to check it onto the plane.
This bag is currently in southern France with my 18-year-old. It was lost in the San Francisco airport, traveled extensively on several different airlines before arriving at the destination in Spain, and now is bouncing around in a small car with my two sons and friends. So far, it has performed amazingly well. I'm anxious to see how it holds up on the return home on January 27. Thanks for a great product.
This bag is perfect for traveling on airplanes. It has adequate padding and will stand up to the wear and tear inflicted by the airport staff. My bag was actually lost. I imagined it just laying on the run way and knew that my board would come back wangled. When the bag/board was returned to me, it was unscathed! I highly recommend the low roller.
My previous board bag was a huge Ocean & Earth bag. This was a good bag but it was heavy even when empty and was just overkill for two boards. This bag is perfect for my 166cm board. With enough room for boots and a bit of gear, it won't be too heavy when packed. The only thing it lacks is pockets in the inside of the zip top, but I can live without them.
Actually ordered the 180 but was shipped the 165. No worries, the 165 bag is plenty big for my 168 Baron ES board. It is a great value for the money and seems to be well constructed. I had a Burton Board Case 166 previously (my 168 did not fit)I think this DAKINE bag is as nicely made and material quality as good. It does not have the internal detachable bags that the Board Case provides and maybe not as stretchy, since no neoprene is involved, but both are good bags.
