Crescent Moon Gold 10 Backcountry Snowshoe - 2009

Crescent moon designed the Gold 10 Snowshoe for rugged backcountry travel. Complete with two extra sets of stainless steel traversing claws that give you solid traction on steep traverses and descents, the Gold 10 is ideally suited for safely exploring terrain that other snowshoes just can’t handle.

  • Crescent Moon’s teardrop-shaped frame provides better maneuverability and a more athletic feel than traditional snowshoe frames
  • Single-pull-loop binding system features a large harness for optimum comfort and a horizontal stabilizer beneath the footplate for greater control
  • Three stainless steel crampons plus additional traversing claws for unmatched traction in the backcountry
  • Bright, fancy red anodizing makes these snowshoes more fun to be around than most
  • Crescent Moon uses recycled materials and green practices whenever possible to craft these shoes in Boulder, CO

Bottom Line: More traction than a snow cat.

High Quality & State-of-the Art Snowshoes

I used these snowshoes this past week-end @ Tennessee Pass, Colorado on fine powder surface snow, one to three feet deep, on previously packed down trails. The flotation was very good even when I got off trail where the snow was not packed down. I've experienced post holing with all snowshoes, occurring to a certain degree, no matter what manufacturer & all sizes were consistent with each other. The Crescent Moon Gold 10 Backcountry Snowshoes gave me the best flotation of all due in part to the wider head where the most force is exerted & tapering down to a narrower heel creating a "teardrop" shape. This design created problems for me @ first until I learned how to walk in them. I'm coming from Redfeathers that, to me, have a more natural stride where the inside edges are consistent from front to back & don't flair out like the CM's. Needless to say, the upper quadriceps got quite a workout on our first day out. The next day was was much better since I now threw my heels out slightly to compensate. The SPL claw binding distributes tension equally around your foot to provide a good fit. Your boot fits snugly inside the formed toe box & secures tightly with quick release, single pull neoprene straps on top & a cam lock quick release heel strap.

All things considered, these are very good snowshoes with their TIG welded, powder coated frame, TGS deck, & state-of-the-art binding system. I'm sure I'll get many good years of snowshoeing adventurers with the Crescent Moon Gold 10's on my feet.
