Columbia Titanium Daska Pass Omni-Tech Boot - Men's

Not only does the Columbia Men's Titanium Daska Pass Omni-Tech Boot provide burly durability with a nubuck and synthetic upper, it also packs a punch of waterproof performance. When rain pours on your hiking trip, you won't have a thing to worry about thanks to Columbia's Omni-Tech waterproof breathable insert. This boot also keeps you on your feet with the top-notch traction of a Vibram Trek outsole. If you can't hike it in this Columbia boot, it doesn't need to be hiked.

Bottom Line: Laughs in the face of wet weather.

good value on the shoes with vibram soles and excellent ankle support but i feel i'm more inclined on other columbia products to steer away from them because i feel they end up in storage more than other products, my theory is you invest in the things you use a lot. so if it's hiking, vasque scarpa and several other brands make excellent alternatives that are very lasting and durable.

I've had these boots for 2 months in training for a Kilimanjaro

I've had these boots for 2 months in training for a Kilimanjaro trip. These boots are taller than my last ones and I've found that though my feet feel great they are harder under foot than my previous Columbia boots. My problem is that they are thinner and stiffer around the ankle so hurt the ankle bone on one leg (the other is fine) so I can't wear them for more than 4 hours without too much discomfort. I slipped my old boots on after a hike the other day and my sore ankle immediately seemed forgotten for that 30 minute walk. I'm wondering if I should just replace the boots (do Columbia allow that FOC?), or should I try and pack the boot around the ankle in some way?? Anyone with similar experience or advice appreciated.

Hi Rex.
I got those boots 5 days ago and after making my first short walk in the city, I felt pain only on the bone of my left ankle.
The shoe feels great on both my feet, but the pain on my left ankle bone is unbearable at times.
I tried putting on a second sock, thicker sock, loosening the laces etc but the pain kept on insisting.

I googled to see if I am the only one with such problem and found your comment.

Did you manage to fix the problem?
Thanks

I have just started wearing a new pair of a different style of Columbia winter hikers and found that they were also rubbing welts around my leg even when I undid the top lacing hooks.

I am trying an insole to change the angle of my foot in the boot, but am not optimistic. I love the boots otherwise, and having purchased them in Vegas, cannot really run them back to the store. (No matter how much I'd love to!)

Never had an experience like that myself, but it sounds like they might be laced up a bit tight. Even then, though, ankle pain shouldn't be happening. Contact the outfit that sold them to you to get a replacement (or if that fails get a hold of Columbia directly). Hopefully it's just a defect in the boot.

Hello

I'm planning my next hiking trip. We will climb a 20 000 ft mountain in southern Peru, Coropuna mountain. The way up the summit is rocky, but the last 3000 ft are snowy and we will have to use crampons. I wonder if the Columbia Titanium Daska Pass Omni-Tech Boot can be used for these terrain.

Best regards

Juan Manuel

I would look into a more mountain oriented boot with some insulation. These boots work reasonably well as heavy hikers or backpacking boots, but lack the warmth and water resistance (even after NikWax) you'll need for 20k.

sweet boots if you have tried other Columbia boots they feel the same and you would know , they feel good. I have tried many other boots of better brands and they do not feel this good. plus these do what they claim to do. full on waterproof. bottom line ....... if you like Columbia boots you will love these!

Review Title

This boot is pretty much as advertised, minus the water resistance. The factory DWR coating is moderate at best and really only good for short exposures to water, such as accidental stream crossings or light rain. More recent use in the snow highlighted many weaknesses of the boot. Even after copious amounts of NikWax and even seam sealer, snow melted and worked its way into the boot leaving them frozen stiff by morning. The lace hooks at the heal continually flared out and had to be bent back into position which makes me wonder how much longer they'll last. The rubber patch on the toe has started to separate from the rand as well.

With the exception of those complaints, the boots have worked well, however I would not recommend them for hot or even warm weather use due to lack of breathability. This characteristic does extend the use of the boot into colder weather though. Break in was only about 10-15 miles.

The boots receive 3 stars for questionable durability and poor waterproofing, though they are still a good deal for the price BC is asking.

Hehe. I'd agree. BC says the bottom line is that it
"Laughs in the face of wet weather."

More like the wet weather laughs In your face because you got these boots. if you want REAL waterproofing, go with asolo or vasque. These ,like my brother said, have ended up in storage.

Why Spend More?

Wow! What a great product from Columbia. As with all Columbia boots, they fit great right out of the box and perform incredibly well. Absolutely no leaking and great support on difficult angles. You can buy a more expensive boot but why? These outperform any other boot I have ever owned and I have spent way more. Best deal on a waterproof hiker for sure. Thanks Columbia! Hike Tennessee!!!

These would be about the same as the others. Down to the mid to upper 20's. Take a look at some of the backpacking boots and mountaineering boots from La Sportiva. They'll fit fairly similar but I've worn a lot of them at much much colder temps.Hope that helps.

Amazing Value

By:
April 28, 2009

I picked up a pair of these when I was lucky enough to get a visit to the Columbia Employee Store. I got these for under $100 so I wasn't expecting much from them, but I was blown away this last weekend.

Saturday I took them to the local crag and was pleased that they handled the approach (1/2 mile) with ease over rough scrambling and some pretty large boulders. I then used them to climb so pretty good 5.6/5.7 climbs and was amazed that the Vibram soles stuck and held to such small cracks. No need to put on the rock shoes for simple climbs! They then took my off a 95 foot rappel and back to the camp ground for the night.

The next day I drove on up to Mt Hood and put them through their paces in the snow. I didn't think they would hold up since they seemed so supple and the sole was so grippy and soft on the rock. Sure kicking steps with them was a bit rough with only a 3/4 shank, but not any worse than any other similar boot. Feet stayed warm and dry all day.

Best part is the next day after using them my feet were fine with no blisters or wear marks. Pretty amazing for taking new boots out through a full weekend with no break in. My only gripe is no lip on the rear for level lock crampons. I only wonder if the Mountain Hardwear team were in on the design of these boots as I would have never guessed Columbia could make a boot for Mountaineering.

Just enough for the lacing to close-in & the nubuck leather to stretch out a bit. Any synthetic material will remain the same. Wear thicker socks to take up the extra room.

waterproof?

These boots are not as waterproofed as advertised in the description. I have been using them in wet snow and my feet have been soaked on a few occasions. They are ok in light rain/precipitation. The lack of decent waterproofing is the least of my complaints: one of grommets for the laces broke within a few weeks of use. Spend your money on something else.
