Columbia Omni-Dry Silver Ridge II Convertible Pant - Men's

Pull on the Columbia Men’s Omni-Dry Silver Ridge II Convertible Pant for summer backpacking trips, fall day hikes, or ‘round the globe trekking and traveling. When the temps warm up, the legs zip off to make a 10-inch short. Columbia added two cargo pockets for your small essentials and a gusseted crotch for freedom of movement. If an afternoon thunderstorm rolls in, fear not. The lightweight wicking fabric dries in a snap.

Bottom Line: Do it all in this convertible pant.

They are good pants, very light, the only problem is that if rains are a sponge, but dried quickly.

nice pants

By:
June 10, 2009

I have only used these pants a couple of times, but so far so good, they are durable, very light for packing, and comfortable, I also really like the built in belt.
Also when you zip off the legs, the shorts are long enough that you don't feel like you are wearing basketball shorts from the 1970's.
I'm going to order another pair or two.

Columbia Omni-Dry convertibles

By:

I bought these for hot weather hiking -- esp. Utah canyons and springtime SoCal deserts. They should do the trick based on a test hike last week. The only drawback I see is that the legs don't have zippers for easier on/off while wearing shoes or boots. That said, I'm able to got them on/off over hiking shoes. Can't do it over boots though.

These pants are just what I have been looking for but I need a 40" waist and 35" or 36" inseam. Does anyone know where I could bet tall sizes?

Cool

By:

I got these pants late in the hike season. A litle chilly right now but great for wet muddy terrain because they dry so fast. The fit is true to a little big. I'm going to buy another pair.

GLOBAL CHANGES IN CLOTHES

By:
March 30, 2009

I am suggesting the purchase of these Columbia pants because based on my experience you will get a good fit and longevity in wear time. I am not disputing the fact that there are leaner price points out there but low cost today may mean poor fit. I am a 36 29 but starting a few years ago due to the advent of overseas manufacturing, an Internet order always meant a trip to the tailor because in the $35 range, the construction was poor. Columbia is a mainstay in the outdoor clothing sector and you are purchasing from a well heeled and polished website. That is why I recommend these pants from Columbia. These are an investment in your wardrobe. Jay Adler

Great Hiking Pants

By:
May 16, 2009

First pair of true hiking pants I ever owned and incredibly satisfied. The material is super lightweight and breathable and dries really quick. Had them in the Appalachians this past week and they worked great. Not a lot of warmth to them and the belt didn't always stay tight (but this shouldn't deter anyone since I have a pretty small waist). I have a 30 waist and bought the small and they worked well enough. Overall, very happy with the pants.

Has anyone ever used a high DEET product with this (Like REI Jungle Juice)? I've heard DEET can burn through synthetics, wondering if it affects these pants.

thanks!

Good Pantaloones

By:
August 17, 2009

Love em. Light weight, easy on/off of legs even with logging style boots on (yeah I wear heavy duty work boots for backpacking) I am a 32W and 30inseam and the M/30 fits well. The legs are just a tad long and drag when I am wearing sandals but easily fixed with a little hemming. Another poster said the zipper tags for Left and Right should be attached to the legs not the shorts and I agree... when I am wearing the shorts I know which leg is my left one, but not which pant leg goes on it. Overall great pants though and I am buying another pair when my size is in.

love 'em

By:
August 9, 2009

they're great! They dry just like they say they should. The legs were even label R and L on the zippers of the legs.

Beware of embers from the camp fire. The reasons that make them great for hiking and backpacking make them weak in fire retardant category.

Do the Columbia Silver Ridge ll shorts have the zippered pockets

Do the Columbia Silver Ridge ll shorts have the zippered pockets like the convertible pants?
What is the inseam of the shorts when the legs are zipped off?

Yes the shorst are the same construction as the pants. With the legs zipped off the convertible pant leaves a 10" inseam short.

Great hiking pants

By:
July 14, 2009

This is my second pair from Backcountry. My Dad stole the first pair and won't give it back to me. I think it says it all. Great for hiking and general work. The pants are very durable and dry very fast. The only downside is that they do not keep you warm and do not block wind very well, but it is expected from convertibles. If you are hiking in high altitudes and cold weather conditions then I recommend something different. All in all - great buy. Oh, I forgot to mention that I wore them for more than 4 straight months in a backpacking trip in South America.

Great Pants

By:
March 13, 2009

These are the first pair of hiking pants that i have bought and they are great! Sizes run a little bigger than you are used to so think about getting one size smaller. Fit great, not to tight, and go over my boots good (no bunching up). Zipper pockets are a good feature. Overall a very good pair of pants.

I bought these convertable pants in Port Stephens marina Australia more than 10 years ago. The first pair of cargo pants I had ever seen. Styill wear them to Constructions sites. No discernable wear, just wash and dry. Hope I can get to buy a replacement pair

Awesome pants

I love these, super light, fresh and they dry in seconds. When I bought them I thought I'd throw away the included belt but I kinda like it.

Just what I was looking for

By:
August 2, 2009

Bought these after buying some less expensive ones and loosing a bunch of weight. I wanted something that was going to fit a bit better and dry faster. These did just that. Very comfortable and they served me well for my first 3 days hiking in the North Idaho mountains. There was still 6 feet of snow in spots, but the weight of these in the warm sun was perfect.

My only complaint, and only reason for 4 stars, is that they sowed the zippers on the legs on backwards. The zipper handle should have been on the part of the leg that comes off, but when they did it they put them on the upper part with the shorts. Just a miss in quality control I think.

Lived In These For Two Weeks!

By:
June 15, 2009

I wore these for two straight weeks while backpacking Wisconsin's Ice Age Trail during the summer. They fit well, and, in the Shade color, did not show the dirt. These pants breathed very well and dried quickly. A durable product that I found to be very dependable.
