Runs larger than the sizing chart

I'm size 42 chest and would normally buy 'large' when it comes to shirts/tops. Based on the sizing chart, 42-45" recommendation is to go Large. But actual fit I could probably go for a small or medium especially since this serves as base layer and the closer to the skin the better it'd work for me.
