Columbia Explorer Convertible Pant - Women's - 2007

The Columbia Women's Omni-Dry Explorer Convertible Pant really is two for one. Zip off the pant's legs to create a short. The mesh venting pockets on the front, back, and sides of the pant give you plenty of storage for all your extra money. Buy a plane ticket and save room in your bag because the Explorer pants are quick-drying and moisture-wicking, have a UPF of 50, and have an active wear fit. You only need a few extra shirts, and you're set.

Bottom Line: The Colombia Women's Omni-Dry Explorer Convertible Pant lets you explore the world in one pant.

Great pants but too big!

By:
May 2, 2008

These are exactly what I have been looking for to replace an older pair of Columbia pants. The material is tough & durable enough for bushwacking, scooting over rocks etc. yet still lightweight enough for hot summer backpacking, & the styling is attractive too. Imagine my extreme disappointment when I received the size 4 short, and it was larger than my old 6! Specifically, the waist/hip/rear is way too large. And unfortunately, unlike other folks, I could not downsize because there isn't anything smaller. I sure hope Columbia fixes their sizing for next year's model!

How lightweight are these pants and do they dry quickly? I will

How lightweight are these pants and do they dry quickly? I will be going to Yosemite in July and looking for something that is fairly lightweight. Thanks!

While these pants do have quick dry I would say look into the Silver Ridge or Challenger Convertible pant. Both of these will be lighter weight and much more comfortable.

nice, long shorts, fit a little big

By:
March 5, 2008

I originally ordered an 8, which I have in other columbia pants, but they were quite large, so I tried a 6, which was much better (i'm 5'4 1/2" and 130 lbs). I like the fact that the legs zip off to leave relatively long shorts rather than exposing most of my thighs as some other women's convertible pants do.

What is the inseam length of the shorts? Where does the waist fit? I prefer slightly below navel, but not real low.

Inseam on shorts is 10.5". These are not teacher pants but lower than most Colombia women's pants.

Great pants!

By:
October 27, 2009

I did 4 months backpacking across Asia with just these and one other pair of pants! Love how they zip off, fit knee length (for short girls at 5'1", that's hard to come by!), and are quick dry. WIsh I had bought more for my upcoming trip!

great pants!!

By:
May 31, 2009

Took our first divide hike for the season and the pants did what the advertising said they would. Stayed dry, wind did not come through. Very light weight, but very durable, even after sliding down some snow slips. Pockets are ok...a little bigger would be a great addition.

No there is not but there is a 9.5" Velcro opening at the ankles with a snap button at the bottom, obviously an adverse feature than what you're looking for though. You should look into wearing a gaitor over your boots and pants.

Great pants - bought one size smaller

By:
August 7, 2008

These pants are great! Based on other reviews I bought a size smaller and they fit perfect. I liked the fact that they come in long as most similar styles do not. The first time I wore them I ended up with mud from a glacial creek all over them. No problem - it came out in the wash!

Touch and go on the sizing.

By:
December 9, 2008

The first pair of these that I bought a couple weeks ago I had ordered one size smaller as suggested and they were perfect. Although the second pair in the one size smaller was too small. Their sizing is inconsistent.

still waiting for the verdict

By:

So far, I'm not that impressed. This is my first convertible pant. Though it should be called a convertible short and the pants are the option. I agree with the other reviews, sizes seem to run a little large and long and the ankles could use some sort of elastic, snap or velcro as these border on bell-bottom style flairs.

Thought they ran small...

By:
December 8, 2008

I tend to run between two sizes so I ordered them both thinking one would fit and I would return the other. Neither fit, they were to small. So I had to return both pairs and order the next size up. The length was great, I ordered the tall because I'm 5'10", but they were a bit big in the waste. Overall, I was very happy with the pants, they dried quickly and were comfortable.

We love them

By:
January 8, 2009

I ordered these pants for myself and my four daughters before we went on a safari. They ran a full size larger than most and since 4 is the smallest size offered, one of my daughters couldn't find a pair to fit. The short lengths were a little long for a 5'2" woman but okay and fit my 5' 5" daughter perfectly. We loved the comfort and style of the pants and the convertible feature was great for cool mornings and hot afternoons.
