Wear the Columbia Men's Cathedral Peak Vest over a hiking shirt or under a ski jacket for extra insulation. Thick, soft fleece traps body heat around your core, so you can keep breaking trail or making turns when the temperature drops a few degrees. Off the mountain, zip up the standard-fit Cathedral Peak Vest over a T-shirt for some extra warmth, color, and casual style.
Bottom Line: When you don't want to bother with a bulky jacket, grab Columbia's Cathedral Peak Vest.
This is a nice entry level fleece vest that is great for layering. I wear them around the house and at work. Very good quality for the money. The vest is not windproof but at this price you really can't expect them to be. This would be the perfect gift for someone that doesn't need hightech gear.
No, this vest does not have a two-way front zipper. A possible choice if a two-way zipper is really important (they're fairly rare on fleece vests) would be the Cloudveil Inversion Down Vest.
These vests are made to be worn under layers or over a shirt for indoors. They are not waterproof or windproof but that is not what they were designed for. They work great for wearing under a shell for some added torso warmth. They seem to be made well and look nice and you can't beat the price.
If you are wanting windproof take a look at the Mountain Hardwear vests but expect to pay much more.
I bought this vest as a layer because it was so cheap and I really like it. I tend to lean toward Mountain Hardwear gear most of the time but this Columbia vest is a good piece of gear. I am 6ft 235 lbs and the XL fit great. I wear this vest mostly for hiking as a stand alone or under my MH windstopper jacket. I really like the material, quality, and color. (I got the blue.) I would definitely recommend this vest to anyone for this price. Thumbs up to Columbia on the Cathedral Peak.
I bought this a gift for my nephew so I won't be wearing it myself. Of couse, since we generally wear the same size I tried it on and it seemed to fit very well (I'm 6'1 170 ordered medium) and not too large like some Columbia outerwear tends to be. It is a lightweight fleece so it won't be blocking the wind, but it will work for sunny/windless ski or hiking days with just a baselayer underneath. Construction seems good and the price can't be beaten for what you're getting...just don't expect the features/attention to detail of an Arc'teryx or Cloudveil.
Want to buy this for a friend who is a small guy, probably 5'6, BUT he does work out upper body so he's muscular. Size? Medium? I'm afraid to go too small or large.
I've been wearing this pretty much every day since I got it. It is well designed, soft and perfect for the fall weather. I'm 5'7" and 130 and the Small fits well with room for an underlayer if needed. My only negative is the double layer neck is very high. If you zip it all the way up, you may feel like you are wearing a c-collar.
Love it, it's like my special security comfort blankie now. Combined with khakis, standard issue hedge fund trading garb, pinstripe suits - we spit at them!
