With a waterproof breathable shell and zip-out sweater-knit fleece, the Columbia Men’s Blade Run II Parka has the artillery you need to combat weather in any season. The shell and fleece wear separately in rainy or chilly conditions, and combine when ski season hits for a warm, protective layering system. A zip-off hood and underarm zip vents let you further customize the jacket to the conditions.
Bottom Line: Custom protection for the weather of any season.
This coat is a great winter everyday wear for those cold snowy and windy days. The hood is minimal of course because it has the option of being taken off but i would recomend just not using it, its more of a hassel. The inner shell fleece jacket is perfect for wear around the house and during the fall on slightly brisk days. The best thing about it is that it isnt a big puffy coat that you can barely fit in your closet. I would definitely recommend this coat to anyone, especially in the pool blue color.
Another question: through my web surfing, I've been finding that Columbia and other websites like to say "Zip-in" or "Zip-out" liner when in fact the liner does not actually zip into the shell, that is to say, you have to unzip both liner and shell, they don't act as one piece. Is that true of the Blade Run II? I'd really prefer a jacket where the liner does actually join the shell to make a one-piece affair. If this jacket isn't like that, could I have some suggestions for jackets that do?
The interchage system consists of a zip in/out liner. This means that the liner (a sperate jacket that can be worn all on its own) can be ziped into the outer shell to becom one jacket. When you buy a columbia jacket that has this feature you are really getting 3 jackets (the shell - a light jacket, the liner - a warmer jacket, and the combination of the the 2 - for the most warmth)
This jacket is perhaps the best combination of form and function. It is a 2 piece jacket that allows you to be as warm as one could want. Im from MN and it gets pretty cold here, -50 with windchill I have worn this thing in, and its insane how comfortable I was. I recommend this coat to anyone, and perhaps get it in black, because it is a great color.
I'm wondering what size Blade Run II parka to order. I'm 6'1" or so and 150lbs, 32" waist...lanky, you could say. I also get cold quite easily. Will a medium give me enough room to add layers? Also, will I need to add layers? From what scarce info I can find on the web, the liner is 270g fleece...am I correct in believing that that's pretty freakin warm?
Will the Medium give you enough arm length is the question. Columbia runs with a generous arm length, so if you have been a medium in outerwear with anybody before, it will work here too. a good base layer will suffice for most activities, and a low-profile mid layer will complete it for the super cold days. 270gm fleece is nice and not too lofty, still acting as a really warm insulator
