Columbia Alpino II Reversible Down Jacket - Men's - 2008

Dammit, you spilled coffee on the front of your Columbia Men’s Alpino II Reversible Down Jacket, and none of your other jackets come close to the warmth of this puffy’s 700-fill down. No worries—just reverse the jacket for a clean look. The lightweight down protects your torso and arms on nose-hair-freezing days, and this reversible Columbia puffy stuffs into a built-in compartment for easy packing when you’re on winter vacation.

Bottom Line: A second chance for first spills.

I don't see an answer to the question about if this will zip into an outer shell. I have a Titanium shell, will it zip into it?

Compared to the Columbia Alpino II Reversible Down Vest this jacket is one full size bigger.

If you have tried the vest remember to size up with this jacket.

Why is this jacket in the softshell section and not the down

Why is this jacket in the softshell section and not the down jacket section? What's the differance? Also why is this 700 fill jacket only recomended for casual use? That seems to be some what under-estimating it?

The softshell listing is erroneous. Down jackets have a filling (of down) in them while a softshell is a hybrid of fleece and rain jacket. This jacket is probably super puffy and the nylon outer material is flimsy. It is warm, but not designed for use outside of walking around town.just to add, the nylon is thin but I would use it outside as it is a superlight insulating layer. Some examples would be using it when you are taking a break at the summit or stopping for when you are skiing. Not sure when the above poster meant by not using it outside. I use it all the time outside just not for terrain where it might get damaged such as bushwhacking. But then I wouldn't wear down jacket for that anyways. Thats what a hard/soft shell is for.

Does anyone know the exact weight for this jacket? Probably not

Does anyone know the exact weight for this jacket? Probably not as light as a mont-bell, but still curious because I am sure it is quite nice...

its not as light as the Mont-Bell but its a lot warmer for sure. I will get the measurements later for you. If I were to choose, I would choose the columbia one. The Mont-Bell one is just way too thin for -10 degrees celsius. It is just more versatile as it is more insulated. You should check it out first in person to see if that is what you want.In my opinion you'll get a much higher quality jacket with the MontBell. Columbia works better for inexpensive clothing designed for work or in-town knock-around outerwear. If you want something that's better suited for the mountains, get the MontBell.DG: .80 lbs. Also, center back length for size large is 30", that is the benefit of buying Columbia they have decent sizing that doesn't leave you feeling like some androgynous French cragsman.
