The Coleman F1 UltraLight Stove isn't just a weight saving stove; it's also ultra-compact and ultra-powerful for its size. Hailing from Coleman's award-winning Exponent line of backpacking gear, the F1 UltraLight weighs in at a scant 2.7 ounces, but packs 16,400 BTUs of heat in its single burner for lightning-quick boiling time at full blast. Full flame adjustability means it's also capable of a low simmer and everything in between, and the serrated pot supports fold away for storage in the included stuff sack. If you pack light but don't want to sacrifice function, the F1 UltraLight from Coleman should be a part of your checklist.
Bottom Line: The Coleman F1 UltraLight Stove is a strong contender in the super-flyweight class of backpacking stoves.
I've been using this stove for over three years with outstanding results @ or above 11,500 ft. Not only does it provide 16,400 BTU's, it weighs in @ 87g, including the stuff sack. The flame forms a ball of heat which is much better for even heat distribution. The F1 is also extremely wind resistant & simmers @ an amazingly low setting while all the time being fuel efficient. (As it is with all stoves, do not boil & cook @ the highest setting. Balance the blue flame for maximum heat & efficiency).
Does this stove only use the Coleman canisters? These are pretty large in the only size I can find locally. I was wondering if the smaller Jetboil canisters, which are readily available around here, would work?
At the very least Brunton, Coleman, JetBoil, MSR, Optimus, Primus, & Snow Peak all manufacturer 4 & 8oz. Lindal valve canisters that will work with this stove.
Took this stove to Yosemite for a backpacking trip. Worked great. It hardly takes up any space and it boils water super fast. I was using it at 9600 ft and had no problems. It's a terrific buy. I just love how small it packs up.
Write your question here...The Backcountry tech spec list the Coleman F1 Ultralight as being manufactured in France, however the Coleman sight lists China. which is accurate?
The original F1 Ultralight stoves were manufactured in France. I have two of them which both have "MADE IN FRANCE" printed on the box. Four years ago the Coleman Exponent manufacturing facility was moved to China. I too go out of my way to buy products made elsewhere, but just like Japan a few decades ago, I wonder how many years from now, if ever, will we seek out products made in China? Zoom-in on photo to see.
Manufacturing changes often from place to place, but because Coleman has been manufacturing for many years in China, I would believe their website. The worry is if it's a quality factory or one that doesn't uphold good manufacturing principles. I suspect because of Coleman's longtime relationship with many of the factories that it knows how to play the game and produce excellent goods coming from there.
I have a big problem with China made goods myself. It's becoming more and more a concern for me...
This stove uses only Lindal valve(screw-on) compressed gas canisters. The addition of isobutane gives it a lower temperature range. BTW, this is a great little stove & my all around favorite!
This little stove does great. Boils water much faster than I expected and burns evenly when you want to fry something up. Really light and packs small. Also has a good surface area (pots and pans don't want to fall off). Good buy in my mind.
Fuel canisters are sold separately. They are for one time usage (non-refillable) & are a bit more expensive. Even if you've left your fuel behind & your getting ready to set out, Wal-Mart sells a compatible fuel canister.
bought this last summer and have used it backpacking and to show off to friends. lightweight, fuel's easy to find, packs small, heats great - water gets to boiling in a snap. for the money, better than pocketrocket or anything else.
easy to use, we had a hard time finding the right fuel in the small town we were hiking out of, but did find it in the end. Great stove, lightweight and really small. Fun for people who like gadgets.
Im looking to replace this stove. Had for less than 30 days, used only twice (two weekends) and after first weekend, noticed oxidation on the stem (made out of aluminum, i think). Absolutely loved the stove, but because of the oxidation, i could not get a steady flame output. Too bad, because for the money, this little stove kicked @ss and it collapsed down nicely to fit in my GSI cookware set along with a canister of fuel :(. Not sure why oxidation occured, but you would think Coleman would have taken the common elements (moisture) into account when making this little stove.
