Don't let the Coleman PowerBoost Stove's small size and unassuming pricetag fool you. This is one of the most powerful butane/propane backpacking stoves on the market. Coleman constructed this 4oz stove from PEEK plastic, which resists shock and can handle extremely high and low temperatures. Push button ignition eliminates the need for matches. ThePower Boost's heat level is fully adjustable, offering 23,900 BTUs on high, and the burner evenly distributes flame, so you don't wind up with a half burnt, half frozen meal. Fold-away pot supports and an arm locking ring make this backpacking stove sturdy. Use it with Coleman's resealable butane/propane canister, model #3250.
Bottom Line: Rely on the lightweight Coleman Power Boost Stove for thorough, efficient cooking in the backcountry.
I purchased this stove for car camping use however it is certainly light enough for backpacking. Immediate 23,900 BTU's @ the push of a button. Be careful or it will scorch non-stick coated pots & pans. Also ignite @ the lowest possible setting or you could get scorched yourself!
My first stove and I love it. I just recently bought a Primus EX Multi Fuel Stove, but havent had the oportunity to use it. This stove has lasted me awhile and is still working. Works in the cold and at altitude. Love it.
I have two of the canister style stoves. The Coleman F1, is a little bigger than the other, BUT, it preforms almost like my kitchen stove! As a test, I boiled 1 1/2 quarts of water long enough to boil 6 hotdogs, and then made mac-n-cheese ! Kept a roiling boil without any problem, ( in fact i had to keep turning the fire down, kept boiling over if i stopped stirring ) ! Very stable with a 2 1/2 quart pot on it. The Coleman F1 has a wider flame area which provides more even heating on larger pans. Even car camping, I like this F1 better than my old Coleman white gas stove. I love this little stove! I used the small canister of fuel, cooked two full meals and still have about 3/4 full canister. The pot supports lock into place and grip the pot/pan very well.
I have had this stove for about four years. Its great! Look around and you will not find another cannister stove with output like the Powerboost. At nearly 24,000 BTU it can roar when wide open, but can throttle down to nicely to a purr for simmering.
I've had many of this type/style stove--MSR, Brunto, Primous, even the vaunted JetBoil PCS--this little Coleman stove is the hottest and most reliable I've ever used. I just came back from a caribou hunting trip on the North Slope in the Alaskan arctic tundra. Just me and a buddy sleeping in the 3-4' of snow in -30F temps....you lie or die w/your gear. I had a F1 coleman stove & a set of WBO Brunton light weight pots--stove and fuel fit inside nicely- usingh both MSR and Coleman fuel canisters. My buddy had the exact same looking MSR stove (Superfly I think). The F1 has an auto ingition and lit up first try every time...my buddies' MSR required matches or a lighter, which at -30F, do not work. So we had to light his stove with mine to melt snow to drink and keep from dehydrating (water bottles freeze instantly out there) and to cook our Mt. House meals. Great time and the F1 was everything I needed. JetBoils work good, but so does this F1.
I just got back from a camping trip that got down to the single digits. The only problem I encountered was the fact that the auto-ignite would fail sometimes at very cold temperatures (in the morning and at night) or in windy conditions. Don't let that deter you from getting the stove. I had tested it a few times before I left at my house and it fired up first time every time. You can't beat the price. I'd buy this stove again in a heart beat. Helped perc some good coffee that kept me nice and warm!
