The Cloudveil Men's Koven Pant is a lightweight hardshell offering complete weather protection. Most shells function at a damage-control level where they only begin to breathe effectively after you raise the humidity inside your clothing by sweating. The Koven Pants' waterproof Cloudburst Stretch EV3 fabric breathes before excessive sweating happens, making it less likely that you'll overheat. Fully sealed seams, internal gaiters, and waterproof zippers keep the wet from coming in, while the extremely breathable fabric and full side zippers keep the sweat moving out. Cloudveil updated the Koven Ski Pants with an overflow cargo pocket that can store sunscreen or an afternoon snack.
Bottom Line: After one ski trip in the Cloudveil Koven Pants, you'll feel like other waterproof shell pants are trying to suffocate you.
These pants rock for snowboarding, skiing or sledding with your kid in the backyard. They are stretchy, breathe well and are easy to get on and off over boots (if you so desire). The fit is excellent overall. I have a 33" inseam and a 33" waist and Large fits me a little big but it is better than tight and short, that's for sure. I found the suspenders to slip so after I figured out what height I wanted them I taped them so they wouldn't move. My Koven Pants have lasted two seasons of regular and hard use and are still going strong with minimal wear. The gaiter fits well over my snowboard boots and keeps the snow out! Great all around snowboard/ski/snowmobile/climbing pant!
As a telemark skier i look for a ski pant that is extremely tough, is breathable for touring, and allows for lots of movement which is necessary for telemarking. I find the koven pant to have all that and maybe more. The full side zips can be zipped to any place and allow for complete ventilation. The material is strong and tough, especially on the inner cuff for all that tip thrashing that goes on when charging. Although they may not be the best just for backcountry touring etc. If you are looking for a pant that you can stay dry and warm in while charging the resort and enjoying endless BC pow than this is it.
I love my Kovens. (I have the Koven jacket as well). This is a great pant if you spend a lot of time touring. They're lightweight, super breathable, waterproof and have convenient venting. And you can always add more layers on a chilly day. However, if you're mostly freezing on chair lifts, you might want to trade up to the heavier duty RPK.
If you've been shopping around for a hardshell pant, look no further. These pants are amazing. They have a great fit for a variety of body types. The waist is somewhat high, but not uncomfortably so and it just serves to keep the snow out better. The fabric has a softer, stretchier, more comfortable feel than comparable pants, but I feel invincible when I put them on. I don't think you'll find a better value in a hardshell pant. These are worth every penny.
Looking for a pair of ski pants? Click "Buy", crack open a beer, and wait for these to arrive. Seriously, they're about everything you'd want in a pair of ski pants. Stretchy enough to be comfortable, but not so much that they pull in weird ways. Fit is loose enough to not look euro, but not baggy. Super breathable. Waterproof, of course. High almost-bib waist, with bottom-zip fly, naturally. Suspenders.
Can't comment on durability yet, I've only used them around 20 times.
I don't think you can go wrong with the Koven pant if you are looking for a great, all around water proof / breathable / stretchy shell. The Koven is lighter and stretchier than Gore-Tex.
These pants have exactly the right combination of features for me: full zipper vents, burly waterproof hard shell, awesome breathability, indestructible waterproof zippers, built in suspenders, logical and USEFUL pockets, and a great fit that flatters my ass but loose enough in the leg to keep the ladies from being intimidated by my giant skin-track dominating quads. Ahem, I mean they fit really well. I like the way they ride high on the waist to keep the pow out but aren't suffocating like full bibs. For this level of awesomeness the price is quite nice, too. If I ever manage to wear them out, I will gladly buy another pair.
Is the Koven pant just a shell or is it also and insulated fabric. A lot of my skiing is in Australia where the conditions can be quite cold when you consider the moisture that we get in the air, unlike the dryness of the northern hemisphere. I do wear a long pair of skins or tights under my ski pants for the extra warmth and blood circulation assistance which help. They also look like a backcountry all mountain pant and not a freestyle pant, is this right?
I wanted a comfortable, durable pair of ski pants with properties cited by jsakman. I have been disappointed by a pair of Patagonia pants I bought two years ago (surprisingly, given my past good experience with Patagonia products)--shoulder straps keep slipping (even when tight), waist snaps release when stressed, seams and fabric at bottom of pant legs have worn prematurely. So far, the Kloven seems like an improvement. Definitely on dimensions of fit, lightness and comfort, including several days of Alta storms. Time will tell about wear to the pant legs. One minor complaint: the gaiter that goes over the top of the ski boot is quite tight. I cannot pull it over the ski boot top. Instead, I have to open it, place it where I want it, then snap the bottom and secure the velcro. Not a big deal. I am glad with the purchase.
These are listed as full side zips but the picture looks more like 7/8. Are these fully separating or do the zips end below the waist (i.e. are 7/8)? Thanks!
I wanted pants that I would not overheat in on bootpacks and these fit the bill. They are high waisted with a bib feel, providing great coverage for warmth and powder protection, but not too high, and they look and feel great. Just the right length, a great design, and the fabric works well in wet conditions.
I have had to patch the knees several times and I have only had them for about a year. I am a tele skier and some of the run outs that we get into are tight but I still think they could do something to reinforce up the knees. I actually ripped the bottom of the pocket off on a tree branch. I do like the way they fit higher on the waist so I can put my pack belt over them... I had to buy an XL because the legs were too tight. So the waist is a big on me. I still use them for ever backcountry for the waterproof and breathing purposes.....Just my $ .02
these are the best backcountry shells i have owned. great fit. very functional. no grabbing or binding. quiet. smooth.only thing to change would be to make the front zipper waterproof and add a back pocket. a bit expensive, but i got what a paid for... quality and functionality.
These are the best ski pants I have ever owned by far. Perfect in every way. Breathable when hiking, but great protection from the elements. Impressive, quality construction. A flawless design. I even slid over rock and root gnar and emerged without a scratch on the pants. I am about 33/34 and the large fits perfectly if that helps.
The Cloudveil Koven Pant is a great pant. Not sure I would use these in a coastal climate but they ski great in Utah. They always stay dry have held up to a full seasons use and the breathability on these is excellent. I would highly recommend these.
About as near perfect as you could want in a ski pant. They are light and easy to maneuver in on the slopes or apres ski. The quality is amazing (all the seams and zippers are sealed). The suspenders are a huge plus for keeping your pants from sagging as the day wears on. I have been skiing as an adult for about 10 seasons and these are by far the best ski pants I've ever owned.
