The Cloudveil Men's Koven Jacket is a sophisticated shell that offers watertight protection for hardcore fans of the backcountry. When you exert while skinning a ridge or hiking to a climb, this exceptionally breathable jacket keeps up with your output. Cloudveil made the waterproof Koven Jacket from Cloudburst Stretch EV3 fabric, which is exceptionally breathable and allows your sweaty exhaust to escape before you get clammy. Excellent for all snow sports, the Koven Jacket features an articulated, helmet-compatible hood that adjusts for an optimum field of vision. Bonded, fully sealed seams prevent leaky jacket syndrome, and a storm collar keeps face shots from becoming neck shots. Other bonuses include a chest pocket, easy-access Underarm zips for venting, and a layering-friendly athletic fit.
Bottom Line: The Cloudveil Koven Jacket combines a breathability level normally reserved for softshells with the waterproofing alpinists require.
This jacket is bomb proof. I would expect that from a 300+ dollar jacket. I returned it due to the fact that I couldn't zip the front zipper up all the way. The neck was to small and was way to small when layering. It worked great for days where I didn't need to zip it up and the fit was a little baggy but comfortable. Just purchased the beryllium from MH as a substitute. The neck fits better but I am not as confident in the fabric.
This jacket is my go to outer shell for just about everything. With large pit zips that cool you down on those warm days, and unrivaled windstopping ability that only requires one or two underlayers during those colder deep pow days, this jacket is great. It also is pretty light and easily fits in small spaces. I have always owned a heavier jacket but now with the Koven If i throw on one extra light layer under my normal thermals, it can be just as warm as any other heavier insulated jacket. I also use my Koven in the summer as a rain shell. If you are looking for a shell that can cover pretty much every activity both in summer and winter I highly recommend the Koven.
20k means that in laboratory testing, 20,000 mm of water was suspended above the fabric used in the Koven Plus, before water seeped through. Typically, any fabric which can withstand 1,000 mm of water pressure prior to leaking is considered waterproof. Mid-range shell fabrics tend to hover around 5,000 mm.
I use this jacket for skiing and at work. The work I do is outdoors and will usually require some standing in the cold to moderate aerobic activity. This jacket will aspirate amazingly. It blocks the wind and moisture completely out while keeping me warm and dry on the inside.
The fit is perfect for me. The jacket isn't too baggy and the cut is just right. The generous hood and sealed zippers are another nice feature to this jacket.
The only thing it doesn't have is a powder skirt. Aside from that I would highly recommend this jacket to anyone.
I'm actually going to buy a second one for a spare. Its actually on sale here at the goat farm! Sweet!
Suggestions on how to roll up/ secure the hood? There's no user guide or tech support and I managed to hook the back stretch clips together. DO the side cords secure anywhere?
If you really need to secure the hood you can tie the pull cord on the back of the hood to the pull cord located right behind your neck. It is kind of a ghetto rig but it works. If you are looking for a jacket that can be switched i'd recommend something that has a removable hood. I usually just tighten the pull cords so the hood doesn't flop around.

feel is good, repels the snow well, couldn't ask for much more really. the only two downsides - it's missing the extra length in back (like Patagonia has) so i have to pull it down often while skiing. secondly, its expensive.
This jacket rocks! I skiied Alta this week. I did laps off the "High T". Subzero conditions with high winds and snow. The jacket kept out the wind and snow. It also breathed well.
