Cloudveil Inertia Peak Hooded Jacket - Men's - 2007

Stretchier and more breathable than most hard shells, the Cloudveil Inertia Hooded Jacket thrives on long spring ski tours, hikes, and climbs in variable conditions. Cloudveil's Inertia Plus fabric is lightweight, durable, and water-repellent. Increased breathability means you can wear this close-fitting softshell on the hike up, then when the wind picks up at the top, flip up the Inertia Hooded Jacket's hood for more protection—no more digging in your pack for another layer. Cloudveil bonded and sewed the zippers for increased durability, and gave the Inertia Hooded a welded chest pocket for convenience.

Bottom Line: Move faster, travel further while wearing the Cloudveil Inertia Men's Hooded Jacket.

go to jacket

i wear this thing all the time. with a little bit of DWR it repels the light rain and moisture. its thin enough to fit under a shell but still can keep you warm on a brisk day. the only thing i dont like it that it feels a little short but maybe thats just because its a softshell

improvement

the quality of softshells has improved much over the last few years! this is the first one ive bought in about 2 years and the quality has gone up incredibly, wind and water resistance used to be a issue but this coat is darn near impervious to the weather of michigan so far, highly recommended for active life top quality as well.

Inertia Plus is quite a material

I have the hoodless Inertia Peak Jacket from Cloudveil and have to say, I love this material. It's got some thickness to it which gives it more warmth than a standard windbreaker. Soft feel and MUCH quieter than other nylon-faced softshells I've tried (like Windstopper and PowerShield). A good bit less wind resistant than these materials, but as a result, it's significantly more breathable. This is a very effective combination of breathability and wind resistance, perfect for spring/fall in the northeast (IMO, not very good by itself once it gets colder - but if you layer up it can do the job - especially if there's not much wind). This fabric seems to be much more technically advanced than other wind resistant fabrics - 1. It uses no spandex, which is prone to absorbing water, instead it uses spiral yarns for stretch (ingenious!), 2. It combines a nylon face for abrasion resistance with a polyester lining for soft, effective wicking, 3. The lining also incorporates a little carbon to eliminate static (and it works!) - every jacket should have this, especially winter gear. The fit is baggy, I recommend sizing down if you can. Not a big fan of the collar either, it doesn't seem to hold its shape well (but with a hood, that might not matter).

Fantastic-but its not for winter

Really a well made, super comfortable, jacket. Clean clean and clean. But note, it is not particularly wind resistant. I would say the description as a 3 season jacket is spot on. Not for shredding back bowls, but for spring skiing or anything else, highly recommended.

Breathable

Excellent jacket. Have worn it several times in very wet conditions at 20 to 33 degrees and am very happy with the way it breathes. I highly recommend this version with the hood- it is very comfortable with a nice fabric inside and it fits well. While it is not a stand around in the cold type of a coat, it does have a little extra room compared with other softshells in this category so there is room to take a small down sweater for a break.
