When you’re a out on the trail straining to keep ahead of the pack, but your legs are starting to fight back, turn to the Clifbar Clif Shot Bloks for a quick boost. Made for endurance athletes, these natural performance enhancers come in chewable, 33-calorie cubes, so it’s easy to customize and track caloric and electrolyte intake during long races. The Clifbar Clif Shot Bloks come in a convenient 18 Pack, so you won’t run out of energy (or your favorite flavor) anytime soon.
Bottom Line: Easy to carry, tasty, and full of nutrition.
These are the absolute best thing ever! Careful, sometimes I get caffeine jitters, but when these are well-timed (just before a send effort), they are amazing. And taste good :)
There are so many choices when it comes to energy products. I am not very familiar with them. Does anyone have advice as to what type would be most suited for the following situation? I would like something for when I'm doing a lot of running/crawling with my basic gear on for the Army - not full battle rattle, but about 50 lbs added to me. I don't want caffeine highs. My body doesn't like caffeine much, and I need to be able to have a steady hand still. I'm an expert marksman and my unit still needs to utilize me as such when training or in theater. Thank you in advance for any advice you offer.
I would be careful with the Shot Blocks and other similar products as I've found they tend to melt in warm temperatures. This is one of the reasons I use GU energy gels. The shot blocks or energy gels are good for replacing electrolytes that you loose when sweating. Use about a serving an hour depending on your level of activity. As Bryan mentioned, avoid the flavors with caffeine. If weight is a concern, consider Endurolyte tablets from Hammer Nutrition.
For longer missions make sure you are replenishing your protein with a Cliff Bar or other similar energy bar.
I would recommend the Clif Shots and Shot Bloks because they are effective, quick, and actually taste good. I use them for cycling and climbing. Be sure not to get any with caffeine (Cola, and Espresso flavors as far as i know). Hope this helps and thanks for being on that wall for us.
To keep this pretty simple: I really like these as an energy alternative to food occasionally. The go down easily and don't upset my stomach. The trouble is I like the taste so I can tend to eat them faster than I should. The only complaint is the caffeine. I don't drink anything caffeinated pretty much ever so when I got these I thought I'd get a punch......nothin'. I didn't feel anything different than normal so that didn't work for me but I'll still keep rolling with them.
These are a great change of pace. Lets face it any fuel source can taste like battery acid after a 20+ hour effort. And, whilst I love to power up with gels it is nice to mix it up. Just be sure to consume with generous amounts of water. 3 blocks is roughly the equivalent of a gel packet and depending on your current fluid status needs to be consumed with about 8 oz of water. We are shooting for a 6-7% concentration. Less can delay gastric emptying and more can cause cramping, gas, dehydration and osmotic diarrhea! This is most important for running and other high output sports.
These things are awesome! They are one of my favorite foods to take whether in the backcountry touring, or just doing laps at the resort. They take up very little room, are fairly filling, they do a great job boosting energy and quenching hunger/thirst, and they don't freeze. Plus they taste really good. If you don't like the taste of oats, peanuts, etc. this is a great alternative as a mountain snack to carry along. One pack contains 6 cubes I believe. I usually take two with me on a tour or use one to hold me over until apres when at the resort. Can't say enough good things about them.
These things are awesome, tons of energy, and they taste good. These are way easier to eat than gels. They are a little pricey but there are enough blocks for 2-3 servings in each package.
Finally got a chance to put these to the test on a backpacking trip. I'm not sure if it was the awesomely fresh air on the north rim of yosemite valley, or the fact that I was eating Shot Bloks, but there was some extra bounce in my step. Black cherry, Mountain Berry, and strawberry were all delicious. Black cherry was my favorite of the group. I'm not a coffee drinker, so these bad boys gave me the mid morning boost I needed to kick it into gear when I had trouble getting my legs moving.
My girlfriend was super stoked on how tasty these are. That's the worst part about bloks- you're going to have to share them. Unlike the powerbar gel shots we took along (I couldn't pay my girlfriend to have another one of those things), she wouldn't let me have a pack of bloks to myself. Can't say I blame her.
Amazing little things. Ate 4 total with water over many hours. Worked very well, no fatigue, no digestive difficulties. Mountains in India - 6 hours hiking up, spending 7+ hrs on a mountaintop in wet, icy, freezing cold conditions, and getting down again. I only had water as my other nutrient as the available food options didn't work out for me.
Actually I really like these, black cherry and margarita are my favorite flavors. I've tried all accept for orange and cran-razz, and I can't say that there's one flavor that I didn't like. Gel goes down easier as you don't have to chew, but you don't have to force these down. The energy boost is quite noticable, especially when you're about to bonk. Besides using these when training for cycling, I take a few on long car trips when I'm traveling on a business trip, much better than caffine tabs and beats munching on candy or a caffinated drink any day.
shot bloks much easier for me to stomach after a few hours on the trail than gels. new design makes it much easier to dispense on the run. margarita and lemon-lime favorites.
The extrem-o energy blast you get from these carbo bombs will throttle you towards the outer limits of gnar. Wash a few down with a Red Bull for breakfast and experience what it feels like to be the Incredible Hulk. Aaaagggghhhh!!! No challenge is too tough, no goal too far. The first flavor tsunami that crushes your mouth tastes like a child's favorite candy treat...and then the adrenaline hits! Domination commences!
Used them first time when training for 1/2 marathon. On long runs, chewed on 1-2 shots every 30 mins. I felt the instant energy jolt (maybe it's psychological). They are easy to chew and swallow. I usually follow these with a lot of water. Lime/Mountain Berry are my favs. On hot days - I've noticed that the bloks tend to get really sticky.
I love these things! I used to get terrible leg cramps after long runs and rides, but I've taken to eating these every 45 minutes and drinking water with Nuun tablets and haven't cramped up since. I have used these during half marathons, the Wasatch Back Relay and 2+ hour bike rides. Wouldn't leave home without them.
Great package, extremely easy to use and squeeze out the number of cubes you want. They can be left out and dont get gross. During a long hike, they are easy on your system and don't upset your stomach.
One downside is the packaging often comes with a so-so seal. I'm not sure if this impacts the shelf life on them, hopefully clif is working on that.
i like that these don't get sticky all over me like a gel or gu, and i can just have a little at a time for a steady energy stream and also easier on my stomach.
The Clifbar Clif Shot Bloks are a life saver... well, maybe a "gummy life saver". When I'm getting to the end of a long 8+ hour race, and your stomach doesn't feel like eating anything, these always come through in the clutch. These are a great alternative to gels - each packet has 6 bloks in them as 3 bloks are about equivalent to 1 gel.
One thing I wasn't too happy with in the past was the packaging, but the folks at Clif Bar must have listened as they are now in a slender plastic package that makes it easy to grab one of these at a time. I ran a 37 mile leg of a 50 mile race several weekends ago, and when my stomach didn't want to eat anything, I was still able to down these. I set my alarm on my watch to eat one of these every 15 minutes. They got me to the finish line!
I tried these and didn't like them. They are like salty, sugary jello. They made me a little bit sick to my stomach when I ate enough to keep me going.
