The Chaco Zong sandal delivers the usual Chaco comfort in an attractive and functional slip-on with an EcoTread outsole that's ideal for a wide range of casual uses. With its shock-absorbing Biocentric footbed and arch-hugging contours, your feet will thank you on those casual outings turned walk-a-thons. At home, in town, or at river's edge, the Zong's adjustable straps provide a secure and comfy fit. When you'd rather go barefoot but need traction and protection, this is your sandal.
Bottom Line: Comfort, convenience, and adjustability make the Chaco Women's Zong Sandal the ultimate slip-on.
They look great, but are not as practical as regular Chacos with the heel strap. The straps gradually tighten over the course of the day, strangling the feet (starts with the toe, then the rest of the foot gets strangled). I have a pair of Unaweeps and they are much more comfortable. I'm still trying to make this pair work though - hopefully the straps will continue to settle.
I have owned at least one pair of Chacos for the last 8 years or so, I have a pair of Z/1 and Z/2--both have been restrapped and resoled by Chaco in Colorado and come back like a brand new shoe. I wanted something a little different with no backstrap, my boyfriend has a pair of Hipthongs (the old style) and they looked so comfortable. I ordered the Zongs because I didn't like how they had changed the style of the Hipthong to look more like a flipflop. The Zongs were my first pair of Chacos not made in Colorado but in China...and I'm seriously contemplating sending them back because I'm so disappointed and I haven't even walked in them much. The straps are more narrow than my Z/1 & Z/2s and they are also shorter, which doesn't give much room for adjusting. The Zongs don't have the Vibram sole which I prefer. It is hard to get a nice fit after playing with the straps for awhile. I like to wear my Chacos a little loose while I'm breaking them in and its hard to get the Zongs to stay loose all over. I might return the Zongs and just wait for my Z/2s to come back from being revived in Colorado.
Please note the picture on the left. If you need to tighten the straps, simply reverse steps 1-4 and pull in the opposite direction of the arrows. If this doesn't work, unsticking your straps is actually a fairly simple procedure--it's just a matter of having the right materials on hand.
I use a solution of Armor-All Vinyl Cleaner and water (half and half), and squirt that down in each slot where the straps come out of the footbed. After letting that soak for a minute or two, take a pair of pliers--careful not to use the part with the teeth as that can fray your straps--and grab each strap right where it comes up out of the footbed. Using a moderate amount of force, twist the pliers towards the inside of the sandal. This should pop your straps free fairly easily. Please do not twist so hard that your hurt your wrist or tear the footbed of your sandal.
I love the way my Zongs look, but in the weeks that I've had them I've never been able to make them fit quite right. They're definitely the right size, but no matter how much I pull on the various straps they still don't seem to fit the way they should. The bottoms of my feet have developed little blisters and a couple of the straps, including the toe strap as others have mentioned, seem to tighten whenever I walk very far. It's not a big deal; the sandal's still pretty comfortable and it just takes a few moments to loosen the straps again. I still wear them almost constantly. They're pretty comfortable and have much more support than any of my other sandals.
Write your question here...I have a pair of Chaco sandal that I love, but over time the toe strap has tightend up so much that I can hardley stand to wear them for any length of time. Ive had them long enough that I dont know what model they are. When I tried to adjust the straps myself, but only seemed to make them worse, anyone know how to adjust them correctly?
These are really cool shoes. They are quite comfortable with great support. My feet are narrow but with the adjusting straps they fit very well. I have 5 pairs and am looking to buy another pair to complete my summer wardrobe. They laundry up very well, too.
I work for an outfitter on a river and rent canoes, and kayaks, being in and out of the water all day my chacos are great! I did not believe they would be so much better than cheap water shoes, boy was I wrong, in a ten hour shift my feet never hurt, I never got blisters from them when they where new, but some peopole do at first, break in period, Over the last two years I have seen avid river rats prefer them.
Just got my first pair of Zong's by Chaco a few days ago. I love them. After wearing them around a few days I finally decided on how loose I like my straps. I find they don't pull tight around my toe when I make the straps a little looser around the foot. I already had the Z/2 Unaweeps and wanted a sandal without the heel straps, these are absolutely wonderful. Softer/squishier footbed than the Z/2 and I really like that too.
This is a really comfortable sandal. Fits my feet nicely and has a nice cushiony sole. I love the way they look with pants and shorts, and I like that they slip on faster than my regular Chaco sandals with a heel strap.
I wore my original pair of Chacos out, so I was excited to try out the Zong. I brought them along as my main walking sandal for a 3 week trip- but I found out quickly that the strap didn't want to stay put (unlike my first pair of Chaco sandals which I only had to adjust once or twice a summer). I was adjusting these suckers every couple hours, more often if I had walked uphill or quickly (which loosened the arch and tightened the toe strap). The last day of my trip, I got caught in a downpour, and I had to adjust them every 2 blocks.
I now seem to have a slight bunionette on my left foot, and I'm hoping it's not as a result of walking so much in my self-tightening Zongs:)
This is my first pair of Chacos and I really like them. I have a high arch and these work very well with them. They are so comfortable I want to wear them all the time. I just have a problem with the adjustment of the webbing . But I will get it right eventually.
Having a high arch and narrow to medium feet Chaco's are a perfect match! Most importantZongs are meant to be worn adjusted and loose (straps). After reading negative reviews, I was worried but I read the box and tested them several days. They are not thongs so, it is necessary to adjust them when you put them on but they come off easily. My legs feel supported and comfortable. They are easily packable and frankly sexy for a sport sandals.
Last year I purchased a pair of Chaco sandals that are great for summer sports. They were too casual for my everyday sandals at work. But the Zong Sandal in Black is terrific. They feel wonderful, are easy to slip on and off and look a bit dressier. I'm so happy I decided to try a pair. Thanks so much.
I'm so glad I invested in a pair of chacos, they're the best sandals ever! At first they're a little uncomfortable but after the first week you'll never want to take them off!!
I love these sandals. I was a die hard Teva fan until they changed the velcro they used, the new stuff doesn't last nor does it hold under water. Chaco's don't have either of those problems. These sandals are going with me to Thailand next week!
This sandal is great. Make sure it is on tight or your fit will start to slip. Otherwise, I have done some serious hiking and paddling in these things and they perform like a dream.
These sandals are the best. I was a little worried at first that I wouldn't be able to get used to the toe strap. But, it didn't take long. They have become my every day work shoes, walking shoes, and everything else I think I can get away with wearing them for shoes.
How do you get the webbing to stop moving when you walk? It gets so tight across the top of my foot and feels like my big toe is strangling. I will loosen the webbing but it will move again in a few minutes.
I've been wearing these since they arrived...they are soooo comfy and love the arch support. I especially like the easy adjustment...took a couple of times to learn which strap to pull but quickly became adept. I also love the Vibram sole...tired of squishy flip-flops.
I had never heard of Chaco until my husband talked me into buying him some for his birthday. He loved them, and I tried these on in a store and bought a pair there. Then I found these on Backcountry.com and ordered them. They are very comfortable and will last.
The first couple days with my Chacos were strange but after my feet got use to the straps and I got the adjusting part down to perfection I love them. I think I haven't worn closed shoes for a while :) They are the best sandals I have bought to date.
I have worn my Chaco Zong Sandals virtually nonstop since I bought them about two months ago. They were comfortable the moment I put them on and stay comfortable all day long. The only vaguely uncomfortable part was my feet getting used to bearing the weight of carrying the substantial footbeds around all day. (Since the Zong does not have a heel strap, the weight of the whole shoe is supported by the straps on top of your foot. I think a couple of days of minimal discomfort was worth it for the slip-on accessibility). I have hard-to-fit feet, and the continuous, fully adjustable strap works perfectly. I love my Chacos!
I have a really tall arch (you can actually slide a pencil under my foot while I'm standing!), so my foot is really tall and pretty wide. Am living in Spain, so can't try these on in a store. Do you think the adjustments will work? Am looking for a slip on tough enough to garden and chase toddlers in that can get wet.
I had my last pair of Chacos for almost 10 wonderful years, so when they finally wore out a month ago, I ordered the women's Zong. Maybe my pair was defective, but with every step the toe strap tightened, strangling my big toe. I had to return them.
It has to be said, whilst I was very excited about getting my sandals, my big toes were slightly more worried when I first tried them on. The toe loop grips quite tightly, and I was worried that the straps would never adjust themselves properly. It seems that my worries were unfounded though, the more I wear them, the more comfortable they getto the extent that I've worn them for 5 days straight now. Great support, great looks, overall, fantastic sandal, and great service!
If I would have known the straps were adjustable, I would not have had to send them back, Sigh. I found them in a store in Downtown Flagstaff and the sales person showed me how to adjust them but it wasn't easily noticed unless pointed out.
The answer above is true with many styles of chacos but not these. The straps have a tendency to readjust themselves as you walk. Many reviewers talk about this below.
Nope, just the once. You might have to readjust for heavy socks or if your feet grow, but other than that just once till they disintegrate years later.
So I have a small addiction to Chacos. I own like five pairs of them. I bought a pair of the Zong's earlier this year and was so excited about them. However, when I got them they just didn't seem to fit like I wanted them to. But I think that was my fault--I should've bought the next size up. They still work, my foot just feels like it might slip out the back sometimes. I still love them, though.
I've had my Chaco Zong's for several weeks, and they're the only shoes I wear. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 was because they weren't instantly the best shoes ever. I was suprised that they took some getting used to. For example, I adjusted the straps 3 to 4 times each day for the first 3 days until I got them JUST RIGHT, but now they're PERFECT. Also, the footbed is kind of rough at first, but again, now that I'm used to it, it's great. To summarize, not perfect out of the box, but they are the only shoe I wear now.
Yeah these babies are all about strap adjustments. They annoyed me for the first 48 hours until I got them adjusted, then pure bliss. They look stylin, very little annoying "flip-flop sound" and they last forever. I got the "parfait" color and they are a killer pale brown/drk brown. They match pretty much everything!
I love my Chacos. They are the most comfortable sandals that I have ever worn. And ordering from this site was so easy. I would definitely order from them again.
So the Zong Sandal is perfect for my job which is around water in many different situations. So if you are looking for a sandal that is versatile and yet stylish, this is the one for you. The strap that goes around the big toe does take awhile to get used to. Over time it does stretch out and become more comfortable. Overall, I think it's a great style of sandal.
I had big expectations for this shoe, having owned a pair of Chaco's before in a different style. The shoe fits and the footbed is comfortable. Unfortunately the straps tighten around my foot everytime I walk. I have tried loosening alot, a little, not at all and still I end up with a red toe and top of foot after a short period of use. I'm not sure what to do.
Like others, I was having major toe strangulation (only on my right foot), but I took them hiking and didn't have any trouble for a couple miles bc the straps got all dirty and that seemed to help hold them in place, then I got home and washed them, as recommended, but the problem still exists. I don't notice it AS much, but the right sandal definitely still needs to be adjusted every now and then. Other than that, I really like the arch support and the neat colors.
I wanted a pair of pretty slide-on non-marking water sandals without backstraps for city/boats/camping. The Zongs were perfect. My pair arrived quickly via international shipping. The sizing chart on the Chaco website was accurate for me and while I have found Chaco styles with backstraps are true to size, the Zongs and Hipthongs are a slightly small fit but I am very glad I did not go up a size because then they would be too big and too chunky looking. The Zongs are comfortable with good support, though for hiking the backstrap styles are more stable. The Hipthongs did not suit my wider feet because some of the straps are not adjustable but the Zongs are not a problem. My Zongs still need adjusting now and then, and I have had some toe-strangling problems but overall Im very happy. I wish they made Zongs in Tamarind colour though.
I have five pair of Chacos, mainly because they have a good arch and are comfortable. They are all different styles and colors - I live in them in spring and summer. I throw them in the washer and they are good to go - the colors stay bright too! I recently ordered a pair of Zongs because I wanted something in brown. Unfortunately, I must return them because they strangle my big toes, no matter how I have adjusted the straps (including extra-loose all over). After a few laps around the house, they are sliding my foot out the back because of the tightening of the toe. It's my opinion that the manufacturers have made the holes too big for the straps, and they don't stay put. Too bad. I plan to look for another Chaco style in brown. Cute as the Zongs are, they're not worth the pain.
I bought these for my teenage, active daughter, not only are the "cool" and fashionable and can wear with different outfits, she likes them on the boat or on the trail. I recommend.
I bought of pair of Chaco Zongs. The strap on the big toe constantly tightens as I walk. It is very uncomfortable. I dont think there would be a wrong way to loosen and tighten them. Will this stop as I wear them in???? I love the look of these sandals but cannot stand the constant adjusting of the straps? Any recommendations on how to stop this from happening?
I also had this problem that the strap kept getting tighter, causing toe strangulation, while the arch strap would become superloose. I had brought them to Europe as my walking sandal, and was readjusting the straps frequently, especially if I had been walking uphill. It was the worst when I got caught in a downpour in Paris- once they were wet, the straps didn's stay where they were supposed to, and I was fixing my shoes every 2 blocks. I think there is a design flaw in the Zong, because my original Chaco sandals with the strap around the back never caused these problems.
I really really tried to love these shoes, but it's not happening. The toe strap keeps getting too tight even after wearing them for 3 weeks. I even tried not wearing the toe strap, but the shoe won't stay on my foot that way. I really wanted to have these be my go to sandals, but it's really not working our for me.
I read a bunch of the other reviews and saw a lot about peoples poor toes getting strangled and whatnot, so what I did was loosen up the whole shoe just a little bit, so when I was walking the straps back towards my ankle didn't have so much strain put on them so they didn't tighten up the front straps at all really. I love these sandals so far! As for sizing, I'm typically an 8.5 or 9 in regular street shoes, so I went with the 9 and they're pretty much spot on.
These sandals are cute and functional and look great. Today was the first time I wore them and I had to readjust the straps often. They tighten on their own and can get a bit too tight, but I think they will adjust to my feet. I don't think I would wear them hiking or in rivers, etc. like I did with my old Tevas back in the day...especially cause they don't have the back strap.. But for cruising around town..I'm sure they will last years and years, especially since they are so durable. worth the buy on steepandcheap at $29 bux but more than $50..nah...
I have to agree with many of the reviewers who have already posted: these adventure-looking sandals are actually not so comfortable as to warrant walking, much less outdoor hiking or long wear. I found the straps, no matter how I configure them, moved and tightened and strangulated my big toes while causing blisters on the outside. The sole shape looked contoured and ergonomic from the web but it is not compatible with my foot. The contours include raised outside of the footbed and I could not find these sandals comfortable although I really wanted to. they look nice.
yes these do have a break-in period. the straps do pull for a bit. they have been so worth it, i have worn these sandals from east to west coast...several times. they go the distance!
I love my Chaco's so I tried the Zong for something different. I found as you walk the toe strap tightens up so one has to constantly keep re-adjusting them so you can feel your feet. I still love chaco's but not a fan of this one so far! I would definatley not recommend them and would return if I had not worn them three times to try to make them work
I love Chacos, however I have to agree with others, the straps do slip. To remedy the problem , I tacked each with a needle & heavy duty thread to keep them where they need to be. It's hard to find really comfortable shoes, but these are great.
These are great! I take them everywhere. I even longboard in these bad boys. I wear them to church, casually. I do not do much hiking in them as my heal is not held down. But they have much much better support than flip flops and the key to being able to longboard with these is the toe strap, keeps my foot attached to the base of the shoe.
I have gotten many compliments in these and now 3 of my friends have purchased them and love them as well.
Sizing: I wear a size 8 in other chacos, these fit a tad smaller than my Z2's. so depending how you want them to fit, size up if you like them a bit more roomy.
I love everything else about the sandals, but the strap below the toe strap tightens as I walk. Hopefully I can permanently fix it in place. My friend has the same problem, so it is not just me!
This was my second pair of Chacos, and I was really looking forward to trying a version without the heel strap, but without it, the toe loop tightens up way too much throughout the day, and if walking for more than five minutes needs to be readjusted often. Although they look really cute and I still love how the sole feels on my foot, I have painful cuts on both my toes from a day at the waterpark last weekend, and I only wore them for about an hour. Too bad, I was hoping to have another great long-lasting pair of all-purpose sandals, but I won't be wearing these often - if at all.
The sandals seemed quality, but I have wide feet and the length fit, but the width didn't. I was disappointed to hear that they didn't carry them in wide. So I returned them.
I love these sandals. I also have a pair of Z2 Terrenos, and while I love them, I wear the Zongs more often. I wear them to work, to the lake, to the pool, to concerts in the park, around the campsite, etc. They are comfortable, and as is characteristic of all Chaco sandals, they are extremely durable. I personally have not had any problems with the toe strap, but do know some who have. I highly recommend these shoes. They are versatile and will last for years through just about anything you can put them through.
I have a pair of Z/2s and thought I would try out the Zongs... and I'll never go back. The Zongs are an awesome combination of flip-flop style and Chaco form. The colors are sweet and the comfort is stellar. I was surprised I had to go up a size from normal though--I guess my feet are fatter than I thought.
