Chaco Z/2 Terreno Sandal - Men's - 2004

The Chaco Z/2 Terreno Sandal is perhaps the most secure sandal on the planet. Its Terreno outsole, thanks to its 8 mm thickness and deep lugs, is ideal for activities that demand an extra measure of traction and comfort such as hiking, traveling, and long-distance walking. The Z/2 strap configuration offers an adjustable toe loop that adds a measure of security to your forefoot, making them incredibly stable. Whether you're pounding pavement all day or you just want a great pair of sturdy, comfortable sandals, the Z/2 Terreno is the call.

Bottom Line: Arguably the most stable sandals on the planet for activities that demand an extra measure of traction and comfort (think lots of walking).

awesome

I've had these shoes for about a half a year. They are super comfortable and last forever. You can wear these on basically any outdoor adventure. These are definitely my favorite pair of shoes. I wore them on a hike for about 4 hours and had no discomfort at all. There great.

Not just for the beach anymore!

By:

You’d be surprised at how much you can do when you have a rugged pair of sandals that fit you well. Climbing isn’t a problem, hiking is a breeze, watersports are more enjoyable overall! The adjustable webbing on these thing is really great you can dial in a fit no matter what you plan on doing with them, and the sticky vibram rubber on the sole I swear never wears out! Great fitting functional sandals. To avoid a re-sizing problem trust me on this one…order ½ a size smaller than other shoes.

Built like a Hummer. (And almost as heavy!)

By:
July 6, 2005

It seems that every hard-core outdoorsman wears Chacos, so I had high expectations for my first pair.

On the positive side, the continuous strap is really good: it's simple, and holds your foot very securely. You can always slide the toe loop flat for a more relaxed feel. And these sandals are clearly built to last.

But their most striking aspect is their weight: they are *heavy*. It feels more like you are wearing a pair of hiking boots than sandals. And because of the very dense sole, I felt that the cushioning was minimal. I'd happily jog ten miles in my Tevas, but not in Chacos.

The Chacos weighed 1075g (2lb 6oz) vs 655g (1lb 7oz) for my Tevas. Some running shoes for comparison: Montrail Masai 780g. Salomon Techamphibians, 710g.

All-in-all, I was disappointed. You pay a significant premium for Chacos, and for your money you get a sandal that feels like it will last 10 years. Personally, though, I'd rather pay half as much for a pair of Tevas: they might only last three years, but they are smaller, lighter, and more cushioned.

[I returned the Chacos...]

Perfect hiking sandal

By:
June 29, 2005

I love the traction on the Terreno sole, especially for hiking. However, if you’re not doing a lot of wear and tear on them, I would suggest the Colorado sole. The soles are just a little too thick and heavy for everyday use for me. But they awesome on the trail. I actually found that they ran a half size small for me, which is odd compared to what other people experienced.

Sandals that hike - word.

By:
July 20, 2004

I've always wanted a pair of sandals with enough support and traction to head out for a full day's hike. Found it! These things rock, period. So far I've been on day hikes, trail runs, river trips and long boarding endeavors with these things and am yet to be disappointed. Good for anything you throw at 'em. Don't hesitate, buy some now.

I love 'em

By:
September 29, 2005

I really enjoy these sandals. For years I have worn flip-flop style sandals around, but I was finally convinced that I should buy something more versatile. These Chacos have certainly been that. They are stable enough to use when running short distances or hiking. When they start to stink I just toss them in the washer and they come out looking like new. They aren't the lightest sandal around, but I don't notice the weight when I am wearing them. They are also very comfortable and don't hurt my feet like the flip flops would from time to time.

Chaco Z/2 Terreno Sandal - Mens

By:
October 5, 2005

These are the most comfortable walking sandals I’ve ever worn. They’re a very plush ride. The contoured foot bed supports your foot like an orthotic. I have walked all day in these, something I could never do with any previous sandal because of my flat feet. The toe loop takes a little getting used to, but when walking it feels fine and actually keeps my foot in place very well. The straps adjustment is a little confusing at first. However, once you understand the logic, it is easy. I couldn't be happier with these Chacos. I’m definitely converted.

Chaco Terreno Z/2

These sandals are the best. The design excludes all the gimmicky extras, and leaves you what is actually necessary: a comfortable, supportive sandal.

King of the Sandals

By:
February 14, 2005

Chacos are the most versatile, comfortable and stable sandals that I know of. I've done just about everything in my Chacos and just recently became the proud owner of my second pair after years of wearing my first pair. Aside from being a little "stinky" at times, I recommend these sandals to the highest degree.

Chaco Z/2 Terreno

By:
October 25, 2004

I took these with me on a three day trip up in the Santa Fe Wilderness and they held up decently. They offered a nice substitute for hiking boots although the toe loop ended up being a nuisance. Another review mentioned how they would tighten up while going down-hill; I found that they tightened up no matter what. Perhaps it is just me, but I found the constriction to be a bit uncomfortable. As far as offering support over a day's hike, I have nothing but admiration.

Don't like the toe loop

By:
August 16, 2004

These Z2's are high quality and very worth the typically high price of Chacos but I wish I had bought the Z1's (without the toe loop). The toe loop tends to tighten up on me during extended drives. Also, I was descending a very steep mountain side and noticed that the toe loop tightened up a little there too. Overall I would still give them an A+ rating because they are great mountain/hiking/stream footwear and you can wince them down for excelent support.

chaco sandals

By:
September 23, 2004

The chaco z2 sandals I ordered are awesome! They are everything I thought and then some. Backcountry.com had the best price that I could find in town or on the internet. I really liked being able to see the tracking of my sandals as they headed my way! cool. Been on my feet since they showed up. Keep up the good work. Spreading the word in Knoxville Tennessee. Go Backcountry.com!!

Z/2

By:
June 9, 2005

I wanted an ultra stable sandal and I got it. I wore my new sandals traveling around South America. I have heard the criticism that the toe loop can tighten up uncomfortably around your big toe. This is a valid criticism, especially when walking down hill. However with a big of use and dirt the strap tend to stay put, and I found no tightening problems after that. And I was very glad for the extra stability when scrambling down some very sharp rocky slopes in Chile on the border with Bolivia. When you are walking on the flat for ages the toe loop can easy be folded down so as not to give blister on you big toe. It can be folded down if you need to put on a wetsuit sock and go white water rafting in Argentina too! Unfortunately they are a little too heavy to clip to my climbing harness. All up I highly recommend the Z/2

Love these sandals!!

By:
October 13, 2004

I got a pair of these sandals (in women's) for myself early this summer, but couldn't convince my husband to get some. I found them to be great for short trail hikes, including portaging our canoe on a back-country canoe trip this summer. The tread is ideal and the toe loop is wonderful for the descents. If I want to wear socks, I just pull the other loops, and the toe loop disappears! The best of both worlds with this sandal....Now with the wonderful price from this site my husband has this pair, and he is enjoying them as well.

Big Toe Control

By:
June 20, 2005

So I debated for a while before ordering the Z/2 and having worn them for a couple of weeks I am not sure I made the right decision - the problem is that my left foot is a 1/2 size smaller than my right - so the sandal fits my right foot perfectly but on the left the big toe strap hits a little higher on the toe - it's a little uncomfortable. I am not sure if after I wear them more/longer my opinion will change but if you're feet are different sizes you might want to keep this factor in mind.

Walk The Earth

By:
July 14, 2005

This is absolutely the most durable sandal on the market today. I wouldn't get discouraged by the few folks who haven't quite figured out how to adjust the toe loop. If you plan on doing any serious hiking especially around tough terrain you definitely need the Z/2 because the Z/1 doesn't have as much support.=>PLUS if you want a more casual feel, you can cinch the toe loop down all the way so it is flat on the sandal, and VOILA you have the Z/1.

Just use it.......Z/2 Terreno Sandal

By:
August 19, 2005

I'm simply very happy with my purchase. It's a very new experience for me after a long, long time to walk comfortably with steady gait movements with an open sandal which acts like a shoe. I just got back from World Track and Field event, at Helsinki, Finland, as a spectator of course, and used and found to sandal extremely comfortable for use for a long time. I can't brag enough and will be recommending to my friends. Keep up the good work.
