What an improvement over the Teva sandals I've purchased in the past! The ordering and delivery were quick and easy. It was nice to follow the delivery progress using the tracking email I received from Backcountry. The sandals were easy to adjust and feel solid without feeling heavy. These are a quality product. You get what you pay for.

What is the sizing / fit like on these? I typically wear a US 10.5 shoe size and was wondering whether to get the size 10 or the 11?

Thanks

The fit is pretty much true-to-size, but the straps are adjustable to get an individual fit. If I were you, I would get the larger size (my shoe size is also 10.5, and size 11 Chacos have always worked just fine for me).

not a better made sandal

By:
June 8, 2009

I have owned a pair a chaos for about 8 years and they are still solid and are not worn out. I finally bought a pair of these just to get a color change and they are the best built sandals out there. I love the keens for certain reasons but that is why I have both. The chaco is going to last longer and easier to put on and take off. great sandal for years.

Wrote chaco on the moving to china deal and asking about colorado

Wrote chaco on the moving to china deal and asking about colorado made sandals, this is what i got back. so order from colorado and keep them in busy.

Josh,

My name is, Lisa Kondrat, I am the Manager of Chaco Repair and Warranty in Paonia, Colorado. Repair Warranty repairs Z1’s and Z2’s, makes custom sandals, produce dog collars, dog leashes, and webbing belts. There are 18 very hard working American’s at this plant.

I thought it would be remiss of me not let you know that service you are asking for does exist here at Chaco. Although the bulk of production has moved to China, the small factory in Paonia, has retained the ability to make special or custom Z1’s and Z2’s. We have had this service for quite some time. Because of the overhead involved in this type of operation we do have to charge more. Special orders are $125.00 a pair. We have a wide variety of webbing to choose from. Should you change your mind about buying Chaco’s this could be a good option for you.

Chaco Z1

By:
August 24, 2009

These are the standard river guide sandal. They are better than Teva sandals for durability and comfort. The Z1 has the advantage over the Z2 of more easily allowing a neoprene bootie to be worn in the sandal but the Z2 which has the toe loop is more stout for hiking. No matter what, the straps will eventually break near the big toe area. Chaco will repair them at a cost. Also, to fight this, Chaco recommends 'flossing' the sandal strap in soapy water to remove sand which breaks the strap down. I have had 8 pairs of these things in 15 years and continue to buy them because there really is no better sandal for river guiding.

The best

By:
June 18, 2009

I bought a pair of these so I could use them as an approach shoe for climbing and not have to bring a pair of sandals to hang out in at the craig. What I didn't expect was to wear them everywhere. I've had them for about a year and there is almost no signs of wear when I've probably used them over 100 days including long hikes, approach climbs and scrambles, stream crossings, and walking around town. would recamend them to anyone and everyone.

Perfect

Perfect sandal for everything.
I am a fly fisher, hiker, kayaker, and everything else. I have used these sandals to hike up to mountain lakes with a tube and gear on my back. I use them while wading in streams, and I have used them on day hikes. They are very comfortable, durable, and light.

A solid piece.

There is no substitute for the go-to sandal. It's comfy, durable, great on the river or jumping around the boulder field. I've had very few problems with blisters or the like, although I know friends who have had issues early in the sandal season with rubbing, but it fades as summer comes on.

A great buy

These sandals are great once they are broke in. I took a small hike, walked in a few creeks and received a few blisters but after 2 weeks of wearing them they became so comfortable that i couldn't take them off. The straps became soft and my foot stop'd rubbing in the spots that were prone to blistering. I have wore them all summer long and on cold nights i can wear socks under them unlike the Z2's. They dry very fast and are just as good in the water as on Land. A great shoe in all conditions. Love them! Oh and The Life Time Warranty is true to its word. Chaco will take care of you if an issue occurs or if you need new straps,sole,etc.. they will replace them
