Comfy comfy

By:
August 24, 2009

They are a bit stiff new but they do provide a lot of support and are getting more and more comfortable as I continue to break them in. My feet are pretty callous and beat up from wearing inferior sandals in the past so while these are stiff, they're 100x more tolerable than my old sandals. No blisters, scabs, cuts, or feet pain from me. Just enjoying the nice supple feel of new sandals.

Chaco Leather Flip Sandal - Men's

By:
July 27, 2007

I've had these sandals for a month now and the sticker shock of paying almost $60 for a simple pair of flips has almost worn off (almost). I've previously worn leather Kenneth Cole sandals which aren't very comfy – they’re stiff and heavy. The Chaco leather flip is extremely light weight and does indeed have arch support which is the main reason I bought it after partially tearing my plantar fascia last year (I wear orthotics in shoes now). These sandals are slightly narrow so beware if you have very wide feet. Although it’s a leather flip, it’s not a dressy type by any stretch. A lightweight, casual and comfortable sandal is what it is. Hope these comments help.

Damaged left foot due to sharp Chaco Leather flip strap

By:
April 28, 2009

My damaged left foot is still healing by the time I wrote this review. Stupid strap has stitching on perimeter of the strap, which irritated then rubbed my foot raw.

Chacos and Birks

By:
October 30, 2007

A long-time fan of the Birkenstock Papillio three-strap sandal, I was leery of having a strap between my toes. I'm now on my second pair of Chaco's Leather Flip and couldn't be happier! The footbed is very comfortable with good arch support. I wear them everywhere I can.

DON'T BUY

By:
April 28, 2009

DON'T BUY THIS SAD EXCUSE OF A FLIP FLOP. In fact don't buy any Chaco flip brand. I don't know about their Unaweep model as I've never worn them, but I can confidently say do NOT buy their flip flop (thong) model! First I bought their Chaco Flip (the polyester strap) because it was too good of a deal, half off the retail price, and to be honest I just fell in love with the style. It looks so cool. Plus I kept on hearing the name at climbing crag so... gave it a try. Golly the razor sharp, non-padded polyester strap of this first pair cut my upper right foot skin off. I thought, oh well, maybe it's just this model due to the nylon strap.

Then a week later the leather flip went on sale, also half off retail! I totally thought the leather would be better because, well, it's leather. I mean when I tried it, it fits oh-so-snug and heavenly. So I bought it and how I was WRONG!!!! The leather strap has stitching on the outside perimeter of the strap and it rubbed my left foot RAW!!! I was so mad. Now I can't wear ANY sandals at all while my foot is healing. My toes also ache due to the thick, pillar-like hard toe piece. I was disgusted. Chaco manufactures very high quality sandals but they should take a page out of Rainbow Sandal page in terms of comfort. Never have I owned a flip flop as bad as Chaco, and that's saying a lot. I have 5 pairs of Rainbows, 3 Sanuks, 2 Reefs, a Teva (I don't care much about Teva though) and now 2 Chacos, which are going to the trash very soon.

Here's my tip for breaking in this stupid leather flip: As soon as you get it BEFORE you wear them, twirl the straps together so that they become one tight knot, then force a 12oz beer bottle through the strap. Leave it a night or two. After that practice pulling on the straps hard, until the sandal bends. It won't break, but it will make the straps more supple and hopefully save your feet. Then use it to wash your car, get it wet and stretched further. Use it around the house before its big break. I wouldn't wear them on a long trip like I did before a period of break in.

Not much of a flip-flop guy

By:
August 9, 2006

I have been wearing Tevas for years and love their comfort but don't like the aroma that they develop if you wear them all day. I was looking for something that was more natural and might not stink as much. These certainly don't cause my feet to sweat anywhere near as much. They are pretty comfortable with a great arch support. If you like flip-flops and don't mind the price or are bothered by the smell of rubber sandals, these fit the bill.

Chaco Leather Flip Sandal

By:
June 1, 2007

Well these are way more comfy than the standard flip. The standard flip rubs on the top of my foot but these do not. I also think the bottoms of these are more comfy. They are a little pricy compared to other flips but you are paying for the Vibram name, and the contoured foot bed helps to center your foot in the shoe.

These will punish your feet early on, they gave me lots of blisters but that said they are comfortable. It took time to toughen my feet and break in the flops. It is a long term commitment, if you are looking for something to take out of a bag and wear these are not for you. I typically went through a pair of leather rainbows in about a year and a half. These will far outlast that. I wear a 12 in the Z1s and Z2s but I am a 13 in the flops. If you can pace yourself and ease into them they are a good buy. Wish they were still made in Colorado though...

Great sandals

By:
May 23, 2008

I really like these sandals; however, my keen waimea sandals (with toe cover) are much more comfortable to wear while walking long distances. I think to have a pair of keen waimea and a pair of chaco leather flips are a great combination. I will continue to buy both of these sandals when my current ones wear out...in a few years!

I bought these for my boyfriend and he loves them. They were even perfect for a casual wedding, but he wears them as his every day flip flops, too. If they ever wear out, im sure he will want another pair.

Pros and Cons

By: Backcountry.com Employee

Pros- Very comfy from day one. Good support on the arch. Nice style. Quality leather and rubber... will not wear out fast.

Cons- Avoid the "weed" color. It shows every molecule of dirt and debris from day one.
