Canada Goose Expedition Arctic-Tech Down Parka - Men's
The Canada Goose Men's Expedition Arctic Tech Parka is the original, undefeated champion of extreme cold-weather utility jackets. After 20 years of use by the National Science Foundation at Antarctica's McMurdo Station, the Expedition Parka has proven worthy in the harshest, coldest environments on the planet, with Teflon-coated Arctic Tech fabric protecting the super-high lofting, lightweight duck-down fill. Four front cargo pockets and two sets of fleece-lined handwarmer pockets provide space for every glove, hat, hand, and instrument. These, plus a down-filled hood, genuine coyote-fur ruff and interior snow skirt are just some of the features setting the Expedition Parka far above its many imitators
Bottom Line: At Canada Goose, the motto is: Ask Anyone Who Knows. When it comes to the Expedition Arctic Tech Parka, they aren't kidding.
Standing in line outside, walking around, watching the game, snowmobiling? This thing will do it all without bulky layers underneath! Huge hood, wrist cuffs, tons of pockets, this thing is good anywhere!!
This coat is very warm, well made and stands up to the elements superbly and negates the necessity to layer underneath unlike most coats. It also is very functional in terms of its many pockets and ability to keep me warm while walking the streets of new York. I highly recommend it to everyone looking to keep warm and toasty this winter
Very warm nice coat. The only drawback for me on this coat is I'm 6'5" and would like if it was a touch longer. But excellent coat and value. It is definitely worth the money. I am always cold by nature, but with this coat I'm actually too warm sometimes. I love this coat!
I really love "Down Coats" because of the goose feathers "insulation" inside, however, when i get inside from the cold & take off the coat, i'm picking feathers from all over me!With the "Canada Goose Expedition Arctic-Tech Parka" do i have to worry about dealing with feathers coming out & getting all over your clothes? Also, is the Hood removable? If so, is it button down or zip? Thanks
I doubt you are actually leaking down. If you are you have holes in your coat. You are probably using a inferior coat made of say a 80/20 rated down. That would mean it has a lot of feathers in the mix and it is probably the feathers that are coming out. Feathers have a pointed sharp end and that can puncture the nylon outer layer and come through. To be officially labeled down it must have mostly down clusters which won't come through. Down clusters are the complete down from the Duck or Goose. Well anyway blah blah blah you can look all this up if you want. The thing is if you have a true down jacket in good condition you won't have stuff on you after wearing it. Also look for the fill rating. The higher it is the warmer the jacket. A 900 fill power would be way warmer then a 500. Lastly Goose down is better then Duck down. Hope all this helps and didn't bore you to tears.
the jacket doesn't leak down. Think about how cold of weather you need a jacket for. In my opinion (I have one) 15 to 20 degrees F is the MAXIMUM temperature for this coat. It's the warmest thing you'll find besides the Canada Goose Snow Mantra. These have the best hoods for cold weather if you need that kind of thing.
This is enormous overkill for someone whose chief complaint is leaking down. Get the Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero. This won't leak feathers, but neither will that one and it's a third the price. And the MH has a removable hood, this doesn't. On a side, note, down coats doesn't belong in quotes.
You may find things you don't like about this parka. It's expensive, it's bulky, and it doesn't allow much range of motion. Don't plan on golfing in the snow.
But if you want to stay warm, this is the garment you want. You can stand around in sub-zero temps with howling winds and feel like you're home in bed. Also, all the pockets have been designed carefully to allow the maximum number of user options.
This coat is insanely warm and incredibly well made. I'd recommend it to an Eskimo if I knew one. I even think people who stand close to me get warmer. You want the best...buy this one.
sent my dad off to the Yukon with this jacket, super warm with great features. doesn't do much for your figure, but who cares if your warm while others freeeze.
See if Back Country can get you the Canada Goose "Snow Mantra" Parka, It would suffice for what you are looking to be exposed to;http://www.canada-goose.com/70pr_snow_mantra_parka.htm
I have the men's Expedition jacket and this is truly the best jacket I have owned for cold climate. (-38 the other day and I was toasty) Lots of pockets, fleece lined pockets, fur trimmed for those blowing snow days, down filled hood for head warmth. If you want an every day jacket or a little more fashionable the Chilliwack is waist cut and not so bulky. Buy one size smaller, they run rather large. (Wouldn't go two sizes as the sleeves may be too short) A word of caution. If you see a jacket on ebay or an unauthorized site it is probably fake! Backcountry.com is an authorized dealer. I see people selling fakes all the time. Even if the picture looks legit doesn't mean you will receive a real jacket. You can't buy this jacket for 200 bucks, if it seems to good to be real, it probably isn't.
My husband is going to Anchorage alaska for 3 months Friday. I am wondering if this is the best coat for a 72 year old, cold natured doctor for getting back and forth there to the hospital and for pleasure? sizing is another question. He goes between a medium to large-wearing size 40 blazer. What do you think?
I'd probably shoot for a large in this jacket. The extra room will be nice for layering. Great jacket!I disagree with the answer above. I am 6'3" 170lbs and just bought a M after trying them on at the store. I take a 42" long in normal jacket size if that helps. They run very big.I bought the medium and it fits perfect! It's true, the Canada Goose Expedition does run a size bigger.
The weight is roughly 2.5 lbs. or just slightly under. I don't know that this would be the best jacket for mountaineering. Not waterproof, plenty warm but this is just more of a frigid expedition jacket.....in my opinion.
I work in the Geophysical Industry and have to be outdoors all day in -10 F weather. Besides the parka what other clothing is recommended such as wind pants, gators, underwear, etc. I am from Texas and not use to working in cold weather. Thanks.
How is the parka sized? I read a lot of comments that it is almost 1 size oversized, is that correct? I normally wear a med reg. Should I order a small?
Yes they are one size bigger. We have several on the floor of our store in Canada. They are the best there is. we've had them to the top of Mont Tremblant at -45 celcius with the wind. Didnt even notice the cold.... natalie www.TandL.com
You can wear anything over a suit jacket, but I'm struggling to think of a situation where you'll need this jacket if you're going there in a suit. This is for working outside at a research station in Antarctica. It's incredibly burly. I would bet that you will never encounter a situation where you need it. If I'm wrong, let me know.Angus, you obviously haven't lived in the Yukon where you wear a suit or a suit or a sport coat under a parka, due to 50 below or more weather and you are in and out of your vehicle. Barry, I would say yes you can wear this parka over top of a sport coat or a suit.
No such luck, it's 550. But there is so much more to a jacket than that. You're not paying for the fill power, that's just volume per weight and has no effect on the warmth of the jacket. You're paying for an incredibly well-constructed jacket that'll probably be way too warm for anything above about 10 degrees out, less if you're moving. 11 pockets, waterproof, real fur, wire-supported hood, I mean they use it at McMurdo, for cryin' out loud. Chances are, you don't need a jacket this hardcore, and if that's the case, the price is moot.
Here are the directions, straight from the Canada Goose website: Down-Insulated:When your down-filled parka requires cleaning, it is important that you take it to a dry cleaner and that you do not machine wash it. Machine washing your parka will void the warranty. If your parka has a removable fur option, remove the fur ruff before dry cleaning. If you have a small stain on your parka, another option is to spot-wash the parka with a bleach-free detergent and water. The Expedition Parka's ruff is NOT removable. I take mine to a very reputable dry cleaner who uses environmentally safe solvents and has experience with down and fur. Hope that helps.
