CamelBak Stoaway Hydration Reservoir - 2008

When you’re tired of reaching into your pack for a drink and finding a frozen brick, slip CamelBak's Stoaway Hydration Reservoir into your backpack's hydration sleeve, and keep your water flowing on cold winter days. D-Ring attachments let you strap the reservoir to the outside of a pack, and the external port makes refilling easy. The OMEGA HydroTanium reservoir uses an antimicrobial compound to block bacteria, so you can stay hydrated with fresh, clean-tasting water.

Bottom Line: Add hydration to your winter packs with CamelBak's Stoaway Bladder.

Suck on it!

I love the versatility of this piece of gear. Use it in the summer without the insulated pouch, or tuck it into an avalung pack in the winter.

I am also wondering, like Chris, if in the summer you could remove the bladder from the insulation to save space?

Yes. Isolation can be removed and use the bladder without it. Actually removing is a must for deep cleaning of system at the end of the season.

Overall Very Good

This reservoir is overall very good. I haven't had any problems with an off-taste. I have two minor gripes about this though: for starters, it isn't very easy to get the bladder out of the insulation sleeve. More like pain in the ... The second problem is that in very cold weather, the water will freeze in the mouthpiece, and you'll be trying to thaw and/or crunch a block of ice in your bite valve.

Is the bladder removable from this pack?

This isn't a pack, it's an insulated Camelbak reservoir so that it doesn't freeze in winter. This would go in a hydration-compatible pack.

Good but I expected it was tasteless

I was expecting this feature at the minimum, so I bought this brand to go assured. So far I have use it four times and used with only water on it and flavor gets continuously stained with some plastic flavor. I have kept it overnight with water on it and empty on the morning and filling it back before going out but still not good. I wonder if some more break-in is needed. Anyway may be this is a general problem on all bladders regardless the brand. Construction and materials is great and isolation keeps the frost away fine and there are no leaks and because in the end the main purpose is to keep you hydrated I still give it 4 stars.
