CamelBak Rim Runner Hydration Pack - 3L

With room for snacks and an extra layer, plus a three-liter water reservoir, the CamelBak Rim Runner Hydration Pack is ready for full day trips in the backcountry. Full-zip access to the reservoir makes filling easy, and an external, fleece-lined pocket keeps your sunglasses or MP3 within easy reach. Some packs are so unwieldy that it feels like there's a struggling hyena strapped to your back. Thankfully, the CamelBak Rim Runner uses a Dynamic Suspension Harness to secure this pack comfortably on your bod.

Bottom Line: Spending a day on the trail? No problem. The CamelBak Rim Runner Hydration Pack has you covered.

100 oz. to Freedom

I use this guy every single day--whether I'm on the mountain, headin to the gym, or just packing a lunch and heading to work. When hiking, the insulated hydration chamber keeps water cold ALL DAY. Throw a few ice cubes in there, and we're talking fridgid. You can strap a raincoat or small sleeping pad/sleeping bag to the back with the elastic cord, it carries weight very well-even without the removeable waist strap (which I almost never use with this). It also has a good amount of volume compared to other camelbaks, (1590 cu.in) so you can push it and go overnight, or just fully prepare yourself for a great day. Kinda heavy but it's not like you're gonna thru-hike with this thing.Lots of other well-thought out features too (sunglass pocket, "Air Director" backpanel padding, elastics to keep the Camelbak hose handy, anotomical straps, very adjustable).

Great Product for your needs

By:

I was looking for something to hold water and gear for daily hikes.. Rim Runner is perfect. It holds my survival gear, water, camera, maps, and chow for casual hikes through the mountains. Although I have had it for only a month, it has withstood some serious abuse. This is coming from a veteran with plenty of miles on his boots and .mil issue gear.

It is large enough for an overnighter if you are a minimalist; however, it is just right for daily use. I take it with me wherever I go, including driving.

Comfort is not even a question.

I am completely satisfied with the product and the one-on-one recommendation from BackCountry

It's bungee cords so you can stuff an unneeded layer in there and not have to unzip the pack and take it off. It's a really nice touch.

Decent Hydration System/Day Pack

By:
May 20, 2009

Camelbak has been making this pack for years. For the longest time, this was my pack of choice for most day-long ventures. It holds an extra layer of clothes, food for a day, and a very large amount of water (3L). That being said, I rarely use it anymore. As I've gained outdoor experience, I have found that I rarely need to haul 3 liters of water anywhere. I usually get through any day with a 1-liter platypus (refilling at water sources). And, unlike most "bladder compatible" packs, this pack becomes a very poor choice when used without the bladder (or even a smaller bladder). It has a large insulated compartment with a huge zipper. This compartment is half of the pack's weight and serves no other function than to hold a 3-liter bladder. You can put a smaller bladder or only partially fill your 3-liter bladder, but you still have all of this unused space and pack material you're lugging around. I guess, to sum it up...this is a 3-liter hydration system which functions fairly well as a daypack. I'd much prefer a good daypack which is compatible with whatever hydration system I choose to use that day.

Great Pack

I've used this pack for 10-12 mile day-hikes and it's been great. Lots of space and pockets to hold everything, comfortable, and just the right amount of water.

Although only owning this for two weeks, I've already used it over six times. It works well. Tip: rinse out two times before use inorder to not get bad taste.
