The new Big Bite Valve Mouthpiece delivers Hands-Free Hydration and is ideal for high-performance situations. It has the same feel and simplicity as the original with more than double the flow (100% more water with each sip). Fits any standard CamelBak 3/8-inch (10mm) delivery tube.
How do you get CalmelBak big bite valve mouthpiece "on"?? On the tube? or 90-degree bend in CamelBak's Ergo HydroLock? I've tried to push the mouthpiece on the tube and the 90-degree bend, dry and wet. But it will not work. I've tried twisting the bite on the tube....but it seems it will not work. How do you put on the mouthpiece on?
I had to work with mine for a while and after a lot of frustration and a couple of big, deep breaths I just wiggled and twisted it enough to get it on there. They're great once they are on but they can be a pain in the hiney to get into position. Keep in mind that it won't work directly on the tube.
I had to replace four of these because my little girl decided to chew through them. These are as easy to use as breathing air. It's probably best to add the Hydrolock as they tend to leak with time. With the hydrolock you'll have zero leakage!
What Camelbak doesn't come with a bite valve these days? but if your reservoir is still in good shape, and your bite valve isn't, its better then buying it all, all over again. If you need a new one, its worth every penny.
As usual Camelbak products perform exceptionally well in the field. Just a word of caution when replacing the mouthpiece. The water slit does not go completely through. It is just scored. After you attach the mouthpiece, pinch the scoreline several times between your fingers until it breaks completely through. If you attempt to cut the slit with a knife or razor blade you may ruin the mouthpiece.
Good water flow BUT don't depend on it to keep water in when the pack is horizontal or wrong side up - always install an open/closed inline valve - I lost most of my water through the valve on the way to a VERY isolated site. Camelbak sells these valves for about $6 dollars or so - they work very well.
Delivers high flow rate yet shuts off easily. Just be careful to have enough overlap on the tube, or else the mouthpiece could slip off. (I had this happen once to me when I wasn't being careful, and I've also found a couple on backcountry trails.)
Unless you have a different kind of hydration bladder and tube, this mouthpiece will fit any standard Camelbak tube. If the Cloud Walker pack you got was new and came with a Camelbak bladder, this will work for what you need.
I'm new to hydration bladders, so I'm not sure if there was a small bite valve on older versions of camelbak bladders or what. I ordered one of these along with my bladder and to my surprise this is the same size as the one that came with my bladder. I bought them about a year ago. I'm not upset or anything, but the only reason I bought this valve was becuz all the reviews I read on the bladders talked about having to have the big bite valve to make the bladder 110% kick arse...so hopefully this review may save someone a few bucks who is looking into one and not sure about the bite valve size like I was or maybe for some who may own an older version or similar bladder with comparable drinking tube looking for a bigger bite valve. At least I have a back up as I'm sure the bladder is going to last quite a few seasons, if not a lifetime!
I have had a couple of these rip after alot of use, but they are still pretty awesome. Easy to use and very functional. Will sometimes leak a little bit. Get a valve if to control the leaking.
If there's a better/easier bite valve to use, I've not come across it! I particularly enjoy the version with the shut off (just in case) but the ease of use of this bite valve is tremendous. My best friend has had extensive dental work done and no other valve works for her at all. Makes something easy even easier!
If the Hyrdapak's tube is the same diameter as a Camelbak's then you'll be fine. I know that Platypus tubes are the same size, but I don't know about Hydrapak.
Your bite piece works great. I love it and use it everyday. My first one died after my nephew chewed on it. He saw me get drinks from it and thought it would be fun. But he couldn't figure out how to make the water come out because the valve was closed. So, he just kept chewing on it thinking sooner or later he will break though.
I have a camelbak octane 14+, great piece of kit and cannot recommend it highly enough, however the mouthpiece valve can split where it meets the hydrolock, its just silicone so susceptible to break if placed under pressure (or stepped on etc). My advice, have a spare mouthpiece valve in your pack in case it pops.
I lost the original bite valve off my Camelbak when my boyfriend tried to hike me to death up Perla's Ridge in Little Cottonwood Canyon. It slipped off as I was sliding up a scary section of rock with no protection and I wasn't about to go back down to retrieve something I could no longer see. Using the bladder without the valve (which I had to do for the rest of the trip) resulted in a lot of water spilled on my clothes. Upon return, a couple of bucks later: new bite valve in place, back to spill-free hydration. Thumbs up.
If you own a camelback bladder (if you don't you should) this is what you suck water through. It seems like mice like them too which is why I needed to buy a replacement.
Seems to make clearing a frozen hose a little easier. I have found that keeping hydrated helps me stay warmer, as well feel a little better they day after a hard workout. This bite valve makes hydrating easier.
