You'd rather not worry about BPA, but you still want a bottle that's easy to drink out of and that won't dent like many aluminum bottles. Grab the CamelBak 1L Better Bottle w/Bite Valve. CamelBak made the Better Bottle with a BPA-free copolyester material, and gave this one-liter bottle a flip-up bite valve that makes drinking easy and spill-free. The bite valve self-seals, so no water will leak out even if the Better Bottle tips over. Fill this bottle and stay hydrated on hikes, during long gym workouts, and at the bouldering crags.
Pretty nice bottle, good to drink from while walking, and you have hands for it, but if I have only one hand for the bottle, I sometimes struggle to get the flip-up bite valve open. It is better than say a screw top, but pop tops are just easiest for me. The flow is a little poor, you really have to take a pull to get a good amount of water. Doesn't spill though, so it is good for the gym.
Love the bit valve, but already used to it in my day hiking and mtn biking camelbak backpack. Refilled directly into it from streams & lakes after running the water through a Sweetwater microfilter and adding a few chlorine drops. Bit valve allows more water conservation. Fit my REI Internal Frame pack outer mesh pocket no problem.
One of the biggest concerns about BPA's was that it screwed with people's hormones in small traces, about all there ever was in anything that had it. They took BPA baby bottles off the market for concern that it would damage/alter development. Raised levels of estrogen were found to be a by-product of BPA's so... if your looking for bigger breasts or think your voice is maybe a little too deep then maybe you can find some surplus BPA laden girly-maker bottles somewhere. Chances are they all got shipped to China and India and in addition to the miasmatic environments those people are subjected to they're now on estrogen binges by way of CamelBack's & Nalgene's older bottles. Cheers!
I already have the .75L version of this bottle, but I wanted to have the choice to carry more water with me sometimes. These bottles are great, and I absolutely love the bite valve. Having it, instead of the regular screw-off cap, allows you to drink while moving without spilling all over yourself. Really nice on the treadmill and just walking around campus.
Hi,I was wondering whether there is much info about the toxicity of the camelbak drink bottles, i read something about BPAs. Is there lower levels of BPA's then other plastic bottles?cheers
BPA is not a (big) issue. don't be scared....http://www.factsonplastic.com/bisphenol-faqs/also, this bottle is BPA free, so even if you are worried, this bottle is totally safe... until they determine something else out that is bad for us..
I drink more water when I have this bottle around. I keep this size bottle at my desk to ensure I stay hydrated at work. I don't have to worry about any spills which is great beacuse I always spill :) It easy to use and doesn't spill what more could you ask for?
The kickin bite valve lets you slurp on the move without taking a bath like with nalgene bottles. though it would be nice if it was closer to the same dimensions as my 1L nalgenes (it's taller and thinner). I wish it had BPA in it too O_o
It probably won't, but the .75L Better Bottle does fit in a lot of water bottle cages. This bottle is designed for biking and I simply love it:http://www.backcountry.com/store/CAM0262/CamelBak-Podium-Bottle-24oz.htmlMatt is correct. The diameter is too wide.
I don't want to be mean, but I have abused my CamelBak. It has had more air-time than some pilots, and after some very hard landings, it remains ever-vigilant.
I do agree that it should have allowed for more water flow. When you seriously need H2O, you may have to open the top and bypass the Bite Valve.
I have dropped my CamelBak from the top roof of my car; forgot it was there as i got in. It didn't dent. I have dropped it and it hasn't cracked. It has had many a some hard landings and has remains ever-vigilant. Good and tough! Two thumbs up.
I really does NEED for more water flow, twice as much so your veins don't pop while sipping. That is it's only flaw. That and...the 1L bottle comes in 4 plain colours while the 750ml bottles come in a wide variety of funky fun vibrant colours.
That and....the base of the 1L bottles and even the width could be made thinner. To fit car cup holders and one's bike holder. It should be just the same width as under the cap all the way down and the base could be decreased. Even if it makes the 1L bottle taller.
MORE BITE VALVE FLOW and 1L BOTTLES TO NEED TO COME IN MANY MORE COLOURS.
Does anyone know how one can get this feedback ot the product designers?
Rating 4/6. More 1L colours and more flow and this bottle would be a 6. It's the best that's out there and still...more room for improvement
this is by far the best bottle i have used. that is not to say it is the best bottle but the one i prefer and works the best for me. one draw back is keeping the water at a comfortable level. since the bottle is not insulated the water is pretty much what the temp is where you are. minor drawback in my opinion. people mention a "plastic" taste, i havent noticed. i like this bottle. highly recomend
I think I love this like I loved my bottle as a baby. I am a massage therapist and when my hands are oily while working I can pop up the straw and have a hands-free sip. Thanks again Camelback! PS: Don't add milk--only water.
there is a straw, which is removeable. great product, yet i still don't understand the BPA free. i think it's a scam by camelbak. cause if the water bottles were not good for you before, wouldn't it be considered a recall on their part?BPA, or Bisphenol A, is a chemical compound commonly found in plastic drink and food containers. Small amounts of BPA may leach from containers and be ingested. There is much scientific debate regarding what levels are harmful to humans, though it is generally considered safe, and would thus not be considered as needing a recall. For further discussion on BPA, check out http://www.thegreenguide.com/doc/114/bpa and http://www.cdc.gov/exposurereport/pdf/factsheet_bisphenol.pdf.
1L is good all-around size vs .5L bottles. Bottom is large (not mine, but the bottle's) which can be a problem with your car's cup holders. If you're not familiar, bite valve is great.
I used to have just the screw top and i decided to upgrade to the bite valve version of the bottle. it's a nice bottle and the bite valve works well, my only complaint is that i can't get enough water through the valve when I'm trying to guzzle some down.
Our 7 year old loves this drink bottle. We got it for a holiday trip. It is spill proof, huge for thirsty work, has not broken yet and I am so happy it does not leak all over everything! The rest of the family is quite jealous.
I have two of these and use them constantly. They are great as long as the liquid does not drastically increase in temperature. If that happens the air from the empty space expands and they build up pressure and want to spurt a little when you open the valve. They really need to bring back the hydrate or die logo on them. Ever since they went BPA free I can't find it anywhere.
The only complaint I have with the bottle is that the lip that helps bring the drinking spout up needs to be made stronger. I had this bottle for about two weeks when I went to flip up the drinking spout and the lip broke. So now I have to use my finger to flip up the drinking spout. Other than that, the bottle is great.
I've been living with regular plastic drink bottles and refilling ugh! This is fantastic, not only safe but brilliant when driving the car as you don't have to tip your head back to drink. Will never buy anything else but perhaps the 1 litre next time, although the 750 seems fine just now. I love it and especially that you can buy parts even here in Australia.
I have a reputation of being as reliable as a two-year-old when it comes to spills from my water bottles. Now? I'm the Queen of Qleen. They didn't trust me until I demonstrated.
I'd never used a bottle with a straw on it, and certainly never used one with a soft biteable nipple. I bought the "fire" colored 1 L bottle. It took me a week or so to stop tipping it upside down to drink (I'm very slow as well as very clumsy).
I wish it maintained cold, but right now I have regained credibility (except with coffee).
Wonderful, fabulous, bottle. I just ordered 3 more! And why can I not have hot pink? I don't want to buy the .75 litre bottle. It won't work for me.
Great bottle. Love the 1L size, fits my car cup holder (which adjusts...) and does not leak. The handle is great and I find myself enjoying my water. I am happy the bottle is now BPA FREE. I ordered each of my children the same bottle in the 500 ml size. A good buy!
I ordered this bottle because I love the 24oz, but I wanted a larger volume bottle. This bottle leaks and it is too big for my cars cup holder. I am very disappointed in this bottle.
I have the Better Bottle in the 1L and .75L sizes and I love them. I'm a bit of a klutz, so I really like having the CamelBak bite valves so I don't spill on my computer or important papers. The 1L size is great for hot yoga, and with the bite valve I'm better about taking sips of water instead of guzzling it down and ending up with a stomach full of water. The .75L will fit in larger cup holders (1L is big) and if not the .5L might suit your cup holder just right. Now they're BPA free, so no excuse to not save plastic and money and bring your own water bottle!
